The sands of time run steadily, Our youth, too, is past, And yet the memories of these years In our hearts will ever last. To lead a worthwhile adult life, To face life's problems with vervant care, To serve our country, home, and church, Is for each a sincere prayer. Our able class officers were: Barbara Johns, president, Audrey Clayman, vice president, Edgar Boon, secretary-treasurer. That year we were all made members of the Lesbian and Adelphian Societies and were excited to take part in our first society activities. As Freshmen we were very interested in school activities and many members of our class took part in football, basketball, and track. Six activity and one athletic 100 point letters were prev sented to members of our class. On April 17 we presented our first class program under the direction of Miss Timpe. The name of our Freshmen Play was 'Iildcat'Wil1ie's Lucky Numbern. le continued our excursion as Sophomores under the supervision of Miss Henkelman and with the guidance of our class officers: Winona Schafer, president, Bill Duff, vice president, Royce Balduf, secretary-treasurer. This year we selected our class flower, the yellow rose, and our colors, green and gold.' Our class pennant was designed by Helen Mae Hermes. It was presented to the school and accepted by Miss Schlose at-our class program on February 10, l9h7. This program, where we gave the play, 'Grandma's Love Seat,' was directed by Miss Henkelman. v Members of the class were prominent in many school activities again. Sophomore boys made valuable additions to the football, basketball, and track squads. Twentydsix girls were made members of the Y-Teens. The students taking second year Latin gave a Latin Banquet for the first year class. Many Sophomores took part in band and other musical activities. Our Junior year soon rolled around and we elected Randall Finkeng presidentg Gerry Couture, vice-president, Robert Haynes, secretary, Don Kreager, treasurer. Miss Heibeck Cnow Mrs. Youngl, our advisor, gave us her assistance in planning and carrying out our class activities. le presented our class program and play, 'Bobby Sox' directed by Miss Henkelman on October 13, l9h7 before the high school. The annual magazine sale to raise money for the prom was a great success. Of course the big event of the year was the Junior- Senior Prom! Committees worked diligently and finally on May 8, 19148, the big day arrived. Dancing was enjoyed in the 'Starlite Roomn to the music of Reigh Lantz and his orchestra. The junior boys also made valuable additions to the football and basketball teams. Four Junior girls were varsity cheerleaders. Many juniors also helped the band and glee club concerts be a success. Time marches on! It seems only yesterday that we started our high school life and already we're Seniors. For our last year in high school our class officers were Randy Finken, president, t Gerry Couture, vice-president, Winona Schafer, secretary, Don Kreager, treasurer. Our advisors were Mr. Waters and Miss Schlose. J . 5 This year many members of our class were officers in the f various school organizations. Gene Graves was president and Rand Finken, vice-president of the Adelphian Society and Bob Haynes X and Wayne Sampson were president and vice-president respectively , of the Lesbian Society. Our class play, 'We Shook the Family Tree', directed by Mrs. Carl Baumgartner was presented to the public on Nbvember 19, l9h8. Inf On November 2h we sponsered a round and square dance in the school Q1' 1 auditorium to earn some money for the Spyglass . 5 A 'rf' In our last year in high school we took a much greater inter- 'X gg ' est in sports. A large number of our boys participated in the three Vt major sports. Randy Finken was chosen captain of the football If X team and Rolly Schumaker, captain of the basketball team. 5 At the beginning of the second semester the senior rating came out with Walter Meyer as valedictorian and Audrey Clayman, J salutatorian of our class. I Along with spring came the Junior-Senior Prom with which the I Junior Class entertained us on May lh, 19149. The members of our class who started in the first grade of a Oak Harbor grade school and have been classmates for the past Q twelve years are: D. Bahnsen, D. L. Beck, E. Boon, J. Carstensen, I. H J 9 4 z CLASS PROPHECY f On the night of April 22, 1959 as a large television studio in Chicago is about to quit broadcasting for the day, Jo ce Sguire and Gene Graves, television executives, are looking at a gin roadcast when things really begin to happen. On the two large screens, parts of the entire day's television shows flashes on the screens. The first scene is an interview of the U. S. Olympic teams. Among those recognized are Marian Jess, the entry in bowling, Anna 6 Brown entered in the women's high hurdles. The cheerleader for the whole team is introduced as Rosemary Reinbolt. The Phillip's 66 , basketball team is coached by Bernard S ra e with Stewart Grobe as ff official manager. Geraldine Hopfinger and Lucille forensen are on the girls basketball team, which is a heavy favorite. Joyce Trabbic is expected to race to an easy victory in several dashes. As the scene continues to change it brings us to the county -Q YQ fair. The first thing we see is the Agriculture Building, where Eigxx they have just finished judging the livestock. The official county 'Eight judges are Kay Don Lieser, Bill Qyde, and Roland Schumaker. Never ESS? e . --------- gs before have we had such well-chosen judges. 5 As a small child walks along the path to the Merry-go round, our eye catches a glimpse of the Produce'Building. The sight of the potatoes, apples, pumpkins, etc. makes our appetites increase rapidly. Everyone is very silent as the judges are about to CQ announce those voted the three most prosperous farmers of the year. Then the awards are given and the three arise. They are Randall Q :V girls are such expert bakers, we have decided to give each of Y you a Sunbeam Mixmaster. Finken, gayne Sampson, and Barry Leemaster. A speech is given by each, an then the people applaud and rush to congratulate them, for this is indeed a great honor. Next, we come to the best part of all. We are now about to witness the pie baking contest. Our three contestants are Dorothy Kohlman, Delores Krampien, and Shirley Rice. The procedure begins. Who shall be the lucky girl to win this prize? One by one the judges taste the pies. Each time the judges smile a little more. At last: There are no more pies left to be judged. And now the winner---. Ahem, we would like to announce that since you ma .ue .ui .am sg ,LL PYELA ii 1 E S 7 .1 fl X The scene then flashes to an executive meeting in a large New I York department store, where Joan Carstensen, President, is dis- 1 cussing the problem of shoplifting with Norma Nolte, sales manager, I Doris listinghausen, buyer, and Alice Grant, window decorator. M Ah, what have we here? Oh, now I know! It's the Supreme Court. There's Chief Justice Larg Fizer. But who are the other judges? Why there are Vernon Wiersma and Gaylord Markley. Well-what do you Donald Bahnsen, store detective, Davetta Reese, purchasing agent, e know! Our court seems to have been slightly changed since 19119. W now have six new women judges. 'Ihey are Jo Ann Foxworth, Vera 5 Saddoris, Ila Dewitz, Jane Young, Joyce Wohlers, and Nan Peters e No wonder so manycases have been appealed. Who can lose with such W, a beautiful court like this? 1 Now the scene switches to what seems almost a familiar place. f Yes, it is the new Oak Harbor School Building. We find Superinten- . dent Walter Meyer conducting a faculty meeting in his seven room W ,V office on the sixth floor. He is working out a plan to stop the X use of the elevatorsfor joy-riding. He is being.given suggestions QA by Gerry Couture, principal, Margorie Franck, music teacher, Ange Wargowsky, kindergarten instructor, and Katherine Lewis, mathemat cs teao er. ' Our scene now changes to the Conover Model Agency. Here we see beauty operators, Miriam Genzman, Winona Schafer, and W Ellen J Noble waiting anxiously for their first customer. As the c ock V strikes 10:00, we see Ruth Ellen Downs , June Leaser, and Ruby Rimel- gf, spach take the chairs. The operators start to work, arranging the .51 hair as best becomes the person. Lois Warnke, our make-up techni- A cian proceeds to apply the make-up. 'lhus as each customer leaves, a new, fantastic hair-do has been created. They then prepare them- selves in their evening gowns and walk gracefully across the stage. The crowd gazes almost breathlessly at them----for this is to be S the new look for 1960. ,Q With a flash the scene returns to Chicago where the winners of the distinguished author-of-the-month awards are being interviewed. In the poetry division we find George Felder winning with his Poems I for Small Children . This book of poetry was illustrated by the ' noted artist Donna Lou Beck. In the scientific division we find Q2 Grieger wT1 f1'g'T1 th his Deep Philosophy of Life accompanied X ' by a sketched book by Helen Q Hermes, nature artist. I . Hello, Miss Johns, I see that you and Bob have been starred in a new hit Just lately. Would you like to tell the public a ' little about it?
