OAK LEAVES OUR FRENCH FRIENDS One of the most altogether dehghtful unlque and lnterestlng Frlday evenmgs of the entlre yea1 came on Aprll twenty second after the pre lll'l'l1Il3I'y trlals 1n our va11ous French classes when ten advanced students and five from the beglnnels class whose essays had been Judged best del1v ered them before a group of dlstmgulshed yudges and promlnent repre sentat1ves from the Cel cle Francals wh1ch was sponsorlng these contests IH a group of leadmg schools Evervthlng was French 1n word and Splrlt fl om the openmg welcome by our own teacher Mademolselle Zorbaugh to the bestow1ng of many compllments and the awardlng of the gold pr1zes by Dr d Argy Presldent of the Cercle Francals Two of the hlgh spots of the evenlng were the Slllglllg by Napoleon Marcou 1n whlch our d1s tmgulshed guests 1o1ned on the choruses and an eloouent oratlon bv Jules Savalm the learned edltor from Paus of Le Flanco Amezzcazn Our pro glam closed wlth the slnglng of the Marselllals but much to our dellght ou1 guests lmgered to converse ln French Wlth our teachers and some of ou1 students On May thlrd Vlrglnla Scales from the senlor group and Wlnlfred G1 eenvx ood from the begmnels group appeared 1n an mterscholastlc com petltlon ulth s1m1lar wlnners f1om other schools and much to our dellght u cn though the ma1or1ty of the contestants had had the advantage of l1v lng ln French speaklng famllles the gold prlze for the semor group was avwalded to V1rg1n1a Scales We also felt comphmented by the fact that ou1 Jumor Department glrls were 1nv1ted to repeat thelr French folk songs as a part of the final program We are overjoyed to hear from our F1 ench fuends that they w1ll sponsor a Slmllar and more pretentlous con test next year TO OUR ALUMNAE Greetlngs Alumnae' It s good to be back at Oak Grove agam' There have been more wonderful xmprovements slnce I graduated 1ust five years ago The brlck towers of Brxggs Hall whlch top our h1ll make Oak Grove look llke -1 castle on the Rhlne At the foot of the hlll IS beautlful Gannett Fleld and the Gymnasxum has moved down to be near by Then there are galdens terraces green lawns and shrubs everywhere There are to be three Oak Grove graduates on the Faculty next year Julla Brown Dorothy Colomy and I We re hoplng that a lot of you w1ll be hele for Commencement The Class of 1932 IS one of the largest and best Oak Grove has ever graduated We re all proud of them and we know you xull be The othel dav a frlend of mme asked me lf I llked the glrls at Oak G1 ove now as well as the glrls we used to have For a second I d1d not know qulte what to sav Then I told h1m that the glrls at Oak Grove now 10 .
