Even when OAK LEAVES goes to press, and before any bulletins have an- nounced the course, or any word of it has appeared in the newspapers, the enrollment for the coming year is more than half completed. The new Graduate Course of Secretarial Science will have as its head our own Miss Porter, who has endeared herself to us for two years as Mrs. Owen's secretary. Miss Porter is qualified by training, experience and per- sonality, being a graduate of both Wheaton College and the Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School, besides having taught school for two years and had practical Secretarial experience for two years. Two other teachers will also be on the staff and we expect that the entire program will be the very best. The curriculum will include the essential courses for a modern busi- ness woman who expects to hold positions requiring culture and personality besides the technical training. There will be courses in: Typewriting, Stenography, Business Arithmetic, Bookkeeping, Business Law, Business English and Secretarial Technique. In addition to these any graduate stu- dent may elect work in Science, Language or in any other department of the regular academic courses, as is not possible in schools offering only Commercial studies. Moreover, every student at Oak Grove also has all the social, recreational and cultural advantages of the best boarding schools. , , In addition to all this for the girl primarily interested in perfecting herself in Secretarial Sciences, our new department is open to any grad- 4

OAK LEAVES uate student who may want just the typewriting or stenography. Now that so many college professors demand typewritten themes and since the large number of lecture courses make shorthand a real boon in college, it will be the greatest benefit to some of our graduate students coming for a year ALTA EMILY PORTER of intensive preparation for college to be able to take one or more courses in the Secretarial Department. There are also some graduates of high schools who want the pleasures and cultural advantages of a year in board- ing school, while they und themselves and discover what talents they have. These advantages are now combined with practical training in an excellent way at Oak Grove in our new graduate course of Secretarial Science. 5
