F WWXNH ,Q A MU, -rilllnnpgw HIS EXCELLENCY MOST REVEREND JUSEPH P. DOUGHERTY, D. D. BISHOP OF YAKIMA In beautiful ceremonies held in Saint james' Cathedral on September 26, 1951, His Excellency, the Most Reverend joseph P. Dougherty, received the fullness of the priesthood when His Excellency, the Most Reverend Thomas A. Connolly, consecrated him the first Bishop of Yakima. As a priest in the diocese of Seattle, Bishop Dougherty had endeared himself to all, and hence his depar- ture was keenly felt. However, we are consoled by the fact that in his new field of labor, his apostolic heart will find greater scope for its zeal. The Faculty and Students of O'Dea High School offer sincere felicitations to His Excellency and implore the benediction of the Almighty upon his labors on behalf of the spiritual and temporal prosperity of the new diocese. 6

' I , 1 , H l 'H J 1 H :fo V RELIGION What the keystone is to the arch, religion is to Catholic education. As every stone in the arch fits into its proper place and contributes to the solidity of the structure only when the keystone is in position, so every phase of school activity plays its proper role in the development of the young man-body, soul, and mind-only when the keystone of religion holds the central position in the structure of his education. This is the fundamental truth and the raison d' etre of all Catholic education, from the kindergarten level to that of the doctorate of philosophy. O'Dea High School is just another Catholic high school striving year in and year out to uphold this ideal. 8 t
