a Strong Arm, The will to win was the driving force in the minds of the 1973 Wyatt Baseball team. The aspiring and ambitious Chaps gave their all to lead the school to a state champi- onship. Under strong coaching by Coach John Bentley the team was able to give the full strength of their skill and to fulfill their potential as a team. To have a championship team, it takes a total team effort and multiple sacrifices. Pitching was a vitally impor- tant part of this year's team. David Mocio, back for his third year of Varsity competition, pitched with great speed and accuracy. Another good pitcher was David Whisonant, who displayed great form. Fine backup help in the pitching department was supplied by Gary Sanders and Jeff Opperman. Defensively, Wyatt was second to none. Totally com- posed of seniors, the infield displayed the winning talents of last year's city champs: at first was Gary Sanders, at second was Mike Ellis, at third was Walton Red Head Wright, at shortstop was Bruce Erby, and handling the catching chores was David Hatcher. David was backed up by a fine catcher, Dubby Peacock. Wyatt's fleet-footed outfield consisted of Rayme Shutter in center field, Wendell Giles in right field, and Brian Crawford in left field. The remaining outfielders were Kyle Still, Chris Dove and Steve Ingram, whose will and determination rounded out the Chap team. These were iust a few of the willing attributes of the 1972-73 Wyatt Baseball team. The baseball season was exciting for the fans as well as a challenge to the players.
