The 1972-Wyatt offense ranked second in points only behind the 1970 team. Wyatt scored 196 points with scores by All-American lvey Suber and All-Stater, Michael Nelms. Scores also were added by David Mocio, All-District Place kicker, Robert Powell, fullback, Jimmy Richardson, wide receiver. Behind each of the plays was Quarterback, Butch Riddle. None of these backs would have had successful seasons if not by the superior blocking of All-District linemen, Roy Frost, Steve Martchenke, Ray Villalobos, Robert Tillman and Mike Pettke. Linemen often times get little credit for the part they play in scores, but without the linemen the backs would be vulnerable to the defense. These men and oth- ers did a fine iob of preventing the defense from getting to our ball carriers. Many points were added by our specialty teams. Runbacks of kickoffs and punts were common by Larry Nelson and Don Clements throughout the season. Wyatt's overall offense was a polished machine with each part working with the utmost precision. Individually no one person could have achieved the goal of District Champions. This was all a team effort where superior coaching, playing and thinking was always evident. This year Wyatt's defense was armed with some of the strongest weapons in Wyatt's history. Maurice Moore, All-District defensive end, did an outstanding iob of keeping the ball carri- ers toward the interior Iinemen. Of these, Robert Tillman and Jim Muse, All-District players, seldom let the ball get past the line of scrimmage. However, if someone should possibly slip past them they would regret it fully by running into the open arms of Ron- nie Beal, our All-District linebacker. One of the new faces at Wyatt was that of our All-District middle guard Stan Hatcher who plugged up the middle. The secondary was also armed heavily with Donnie Boone, Londell Fisher and Larry Nelson at the corner bacl positions and Michael Nelms was posted back in the safety position. All of these players were on the All-District roster This well disciplined, hard working defense was able tc keep their opponents to a low 79 total points which wa: the lowest in Wyatt's history. This might lead one to thinl that this year's 1972 Wyatt Chaparrals were an Al Around Number One Team.
