Commanding Officer Commander Frick COMMANDER ERICK who is originally from Wickenuburg. Arizona. enlisted in the Na v y in l95 After completing recruit training and Electronics Technician A School. he served successively as leading E T in USS PUKSUIT IAGS-l7t and USS PYRO tAE-241. He was an ETI assigned to HECOMHA TRACEN Dani Neck. VA when selected for conunustoning through the Integration Pregrant. Upon graduation from OCS and commissioning tn IMI. C'OMMA:'VDEfm' IRICA was assigned to U55 PUICHETT QPU-560 at CIC Officer and E HO. That tour was followed bv assignment as DESDIV 192 Operations Officer for the Task Group Comtnandcr cinbarltcd on USS MAODOI 490- '31 '. Hts nent assignment was as hccuttu' Officer. USS NEDGE :USO-4921 COIMHNDER ERICA was then assigned to the Bureau of Nasal Personnel as rating and assignment officer for the E T and PS ratings and was subsequently assigned to the :Naval Postgraduate School uhcrc he earned a Rachelor of Science in Mathematics. He then graduated from the Armed forces Staff College. after which he was assigned as Operations Officer on USS 6 GRIDLE Y ICG-JU. That tour included PIRAZ and other ASW operations during the evacuation of Saigon and recovery of the SS Ma yaguez from Cambodia. Thus, he participated in both the first Kon MADDOXQ and Int Na val Operations of the Vietnam conflict. Upon completion of his tour on GRIDLEY. COMMANDER ERICK was assigned to the COMNA V- SUREPAC Staff where he was Force AA WXE W readiness officer and Force New Construction coordinator. primarily involved with acquistion of DD-963's. His final tour prior to reporting to O'CAl.LAHAN was an Executive Officer. USS BLUE RIDGE TLCC-l9j operating from Yokosuka, Japan as flagship COMMANDER SEVENTH FLEET. He assumed command of USS O'CAlLAHAN tEF-IOSIQ on I0 October l98l. include The Meritorious Service Medal, three Navy Commendation Medals, the Combat Action Ribbon, two Navy Unit and one Meritorious Unit citations, and various service and campaign ribbons.
