Decommissioned at the end of World War ll. DD-T25 was recommissioned at the onset of the Korean conflict. Her combat experience during this war consisted almost exclusively of shore bombardment in support of United Nations Forces. 0'BRIEN participated in the seige of Songin and was one of three ships involved in the i'Battle of the Buzz-sawn at Wonsan Harbor in July of 1951. After Korea, DD-725 underwent FRANI ll conversion rr-molding her for antisubmarine warfare. Then, in 1965, she entered the Viet Nam conflict. As in Korea, O'Bltll-lN's primary services would be those of providing gunfire support to land troops, in destroying enemy shore installations, and in the interdiction of coastal supply movements. ller greatest service evolved around her efforts in this latter category, U'BltlllN, alone, accounted for the destruction of, or severe daniatge to 2U enemy vessels that were providing supplies to the Viet Vontg. O'BltIEN was fired on a total of six times hy shore lmttt'i'it's during such assigrtmt-nts. At one time she took three direct hits from a shore battery, and, although severely tlarnaeetl, she managed to destroy that same installation. llll-T25 was instru- mental in significantly slowing coastal supply trat'fit-. l'he ship was decommissioned at Long Beach in l-'ehruary ot' 19713. USS O'IiRll'lN HDD-9751 USS O'BKll'iN QDD-9'i'5l is the fifth Ship of the l.ine thitnetl in honor of Captain Jeremiah O'Brien. The largest .intl hest equipped O'Bltll'IN to date, she is also among the finest the worltl has seen. LTSS O'Bltll-IN 1lJD-9751 will continue in the long and proud tradition begun by the colortntl patriot for which she is named. 4 'F
