He was commissioned in 1946 andserved in various billets in USS FRANK KNOX fDDR742J, USS EPCE QRJ 857 and USS THEODORE E, CHANDLER 1DD'717J, During the Korean War he was serving in USS WALKE qDD723J when she was severely damaged off WON- SAN, Korea. From this followed duty as Commanding Officer USS SAUSALITO QPF- 4l, Administrative Assistant to J-4 at HQ, United Nations CommandfFar East Com- mand in Tokyo, Aide and Flag Lieutenant to COMSERVRON THREE, Executive Of- ficer Of USS MELVIN R. NAWMAN fDE4l6J and Operations Officer of USS CHILTON APA38J which participated in the amphib- ious landing in Beirut, Lebanon in 1958. Commander FARRIS then had duty in the Bureau of Naval Personnel followed by a tour as Executive Officer, USS EDSON fDD946J. He attended the Armed Forces Air in Madrid, Spain, from where he was ordered to command the USS O'BRlEN fDD725J in September 1966. He has been twice awarded the Bronze Star Medal for actions in the Korean War and in Viet Nam operations.

CLARK was graduated from the U,S, Naval Academy and was commissioned in June 1943. His first as- signment Was in the Gunnery Department of the USS HALE fDD642J. This Was followed by duty on the staff of Commander Destroyer Flotilla ONE. His next tour of sea duty was in communications on the staff ofComman- der Cruiser Division THREE, From 1952 to 1953 he was the Flag Lieutenant to Com- mander Cruiser-Destroyer Force, Pacific. He was next assigned as the Executive Officer on the USS WEDDERBURN tDD684l. He commanded the USS CHANDLER tDD7l7l from 1958 to 1960. His next tour at sea was as Surface Operations Officer on the staff of Commander Carrier Division SEVEN in the western Pacific. In November 1966 Captain CLARK assumed command of Destroyer Division TWO HUNDRED THIRTY-TWO. In 1949 Captain CLARK completed a course in Communications at the Naval Post Graduate School at Mon- terrey, California. His assignments ashore have been in Communication billets. H9 has had duty at the Naval Communication Station, KOdiak, Alaska, in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations in Washing't0H, D-C-, and at Focc Kuiiia in Hawaii. He comes to this command from duty at the Naval Communications Station, San Dieg0i California- Captain CLARK was awardedthe Bronze Star and received the Navy Unit CO1T1m9Hda'Ei0n While serving on the staff Of Commander C arrier Division SEVEN during operations off the coast of Vietnam. He was awarded a second Bronze Star for Meritorious Achievement as Task Unit Com- mander of Operation Sea Dragon in the Tonkin Gulf, Vietnam,
