This man's illustriouslpast in education should speak volumes regarding his aptitude as an outstanding ed'u'catblis,.0rginally from Ruthland, Vermont, Joe received his B.S. Ed. from Castleton Tefgrgghers College and his IVI Ed. from the University of Vermont. Fron 1946-47, he instFl,lcte,d eighth grade in South Burlington, Vt. In 1948, Joe was elected principal, teadher and .coach in Pittsford, Vt. and held these positions through 1956. He has taught at .UB'A5,schooIs ln Spain and Newfoundland and also served as a high school principalgflrjifrlewfound- land. After his five year experience abroad. Joe was elected an elenfejjtaii school -principal in Newbury, Nlass. Nineteen sixty-two marks a memorahlefygigtjiijif it is at gtltylstlme that the Gloucester schools weregraced with Joe's talents1rlIg?lQ?5ifQY3S assigned lfoiteach social studies in grades seven, eight and nine. Joe's philosophiflweducation ilglgthat the kids are first. He believes that educators should like IcidS, f.QLili?ife lies the Lkgyjto educational success. Joe is innovative, compassionate, friendlwfbaring and 'ilioye all, unequaled. -Qljhrouglwout his sixteen years of working with Gloucester boys an'duQ1,Elsf5jJoe has 'fgglfjgilifishly dedicated himself to their education, their lives.fFrom 1973:4:l1Q?the present, Joe has served as the photographer for the yearbook a task which on the surface .SEEMS all too easy. He took on this unsalaried position with no desire but to do it for ih'ei'kids, While spending many hours before and after school and during vacations dev- loplng, printing, and taking photographs, Joe consistently strove for excellence in the photography production of the yearbook. In addition to his public side, there is a private one. Joe is a man who loves history, opera, cartoons, photography, the ocean, boating, the Detroit Tigers and most of all, the Kids. The fact that he has become godfather to at least two dozen children of Gloucester attests to this! What more can one say of such a giving, unselfish, loyal, dedicated teacher, ad- visor and friend? Nlere thanks could not and would not suffice. In order to serve jus- tice to Joe, one could only offer the highest accolade of our capacity the dedica- tion of our love and appreciation through the medium which Joe helped create the yearbook. .
