ARCHBISHOP O LEARY The priest, who in his later years attained the title Archbishop Joseph O ' Leary, was a man dedicated to God and a servant to his neighbours. During his episcopal service he sacrificed his time and energy incessantly to promote and extend Catholic education in our Archdiocese. A statement of Bishop O ' Leary ' s philosophy of edu¬ cation reads: The intellect, the memory, the imagination, the will not to speak of the physi¬ cal faculties, all require training and the most important part of educati on, is not so much that of the intellect as that of the will. In the formation of the good citizen, intellectual instruction alone will never supply the deficiency of the will. DEDICATION We have endeavoured to pass on to you the torch of aspiration and the ambition to be, to do, each according to his ability. These words are selected from Sister Theresa Marie’s message to the graduates as it appeared in the first edition of THE ENVOY. When O ' Leary High School opened in September, 1960, Sister served as princi¬ pal of the Girls ' School. In this capacity she pioneered for two years in the co-ad¬ ministration of our new high school. The attitude indicated in the excerpt quoted is characteristic of her ever present concern for the betterment of her students. In her wonderfully cheerful and kind manner she instilled into the girls of O ' Leary High the ambition to work hard, both at their studies and at making O ' Leary a school of which they could be justifiably proud. It is the opinion of the students who know her, and of those who can only judge her by O ' Leary itself that she was ever mindful of her responsibility to pass on the torch of aspiration. With fond remembrance and deep gratitude we dedicate THE ENVOY ' 63 to Sister Theresa Marie.
