Page 14 text:

FROM OUR PRINCIPALS, Dear Student: As the Envoy is being compiled and my tardy pen is pressed into service, I am quite concerned with your future, I have seen you watching clocks and calendars, wishing the days of your life away. I have seen our gradu¬ ates content to rest among the unemployed or to work a few hours a day. Very few of us will ever see the biblical three score and ten years. In this life, we have the privilege of doing a few things well. I look forward to the day when a sense of purpose so overwhelms our student body that they seek knowledge with the fervor of a winless team seeking its first victory. (Yes, I just returned from the game against Jasper Place.) While you are in school, seek out things of value in your courses. When you are planning your future, have faith and courage then work with inspiration to¬ wards your goal. Keep in mind that there is no absolute yardstick of success out¬ side of eternity. Whether the struggle be with Pythagoras, the personnel manager or the Devil himself, remember it is our lot ever to seek, to find and not to yield. Viam veritatis elegi Such is the motto chosen by you and the others who with you made up O ' Leary ' s first classes in 1960. The way of truth is not always--indeed it is not usually-- the easiest way. There are forces working continually against it. You live in an age that is twisted out of its true pattern, and among such people, you shine out, beacons to the world, upholding the message of life. Phil. 11, 15 May each of you accept the challenge of¬ fered by these words, applicable to the O ' Leary grads of 1963 as they were to the members of St. Paul ' s audience. That you will know through life the peace and joy that comes of letting your light shine is my wish for each of you as you join O ' Leary ' s Alumnae.
