Trull Michael Trull Kim Winecoff Jimmie Yow u Decficatecf to Community Odell Gymnasium Odell Volunteer Fire Department From the eyes of students come appreciative glances for the new and vast improvements made in our school and community this year. As we sit quietly in our classrooms each day, we are awakened into reality by the sound of fear as we hear the shrieking siren. But, our fears subside as we remember the volunteers of the Odell Fire Department, who are always alert and ready to lend a helping hand. As we are playing in our gym, we think of all those who helped to make it possible. This season was a vast improvement over last year ' s, both in ability and in team spirit. But probably the most important progress was made inside each member of the team. Most went in boys and girls, and completed the season as men and women. Success is not measured by glaring lights on a scoreboard, because these lights fade and the cheering subsides. But it is measured by the combined efforts, the cooperation, and the sacrifice of team and coach to do their best and try their hardest. This is what made the 1964-1965 basketball season a genuine success. 52 Siucfent Council John Aldridge . . Trena Crowe . . Ann Oehler . . . Trena Frye . . . Mr. E. COLORS FLOWER Green and White White Chrysanthemum CLASS POEM We ' ve just been here long enough To be shown the way. We are ready the future to face, smooth or rough. We ' re leaving today! We ' re leaving today! We ' ve been led at home and school By the bright shining rays Of the ever taught Golden Rule. We ' re leaving today! All the trials and troubles of grammar grades Have already passed away, But the memories of those years will never fade. We ' re leaving today! The high school proms, plays and sweet dates. But from this very day We leave these things behind, and move forward to our eternal fate. We are proud t o hold our heads up high And with pride to say As a single tear or two touches the eye We ' ve worked, wished and waited for this day, And now we ' re leaving today! 87 C) ass J is ory August, 1961. Terry Suther, we give you a spare fender, instead of tire, although both have been in desperate need at one time or another. Eddie Taylor, we give you a milking machine to remind you of the many times you had to get up and milk before coming to school. Gary Torrence, we give you a set of ear plugs since your ear drums were ruined while driving a bus. Dianne Tucker, we give you this diary for the many secrets you can keep so cunningly. Saundra Turner, here is a swivel chair since you went round and round the table putting newspaper pages together. Angie Yow, we give you this stencil to remind you of the many times you typed on the newspaper as editor. Paul Yow, here is some art gum to aid you in drawing. Trena Frye, Paul Yow, Giftorians 90 It was a rough trip way up here to the moon, but with the help of TRENA CROWE, my worthy technologist and navigator, the trip was made somewhat enjoyable. As we begin setting up a space station, Trena and I are looking down on the good ole world to see how everything is coming along. The race for space is indeed a simple one for this year of 1980. STEVE MYERS, one of the world ' s most renown scientist, is working on a new type of rocket fuel. Space is indeed in the minds of every- one. HARVEY MORRIS, once a big time athlete himself, is now touring the world with histeam, The Moonmen, of which JOHN ALDRIDGE is one of his star players. JAY BLACKWELDER and EDDIE TAYLOR now own the nation ' s largest string of restaurants and night clubs called The Stardust. GOODMAN and GOODMAN Motors, owned by the two brothers EDDIE and WAYNE has lately turned from automotive competition to the race for space. Their design of the hemi head rocket engine is turning out to be really success- ful. RICHARD RAMSEY is their head engineer. Meanwhile, the women, a forgotten picture in the world of space, have suddenly taken over. KAY KEE was assigned special duty to help train potential lady astronauts. Her latest trainees are LINDA HARTSELL, ONE of the nation ' s most prominent nuclear physicists and GLORIA BALL, consultant about the works of Albert Einstein. Many of Odell ' s former students have become interested in the race for space. TOMMY NASH and GARY TORRENCE are preparing themselves for space trips. Oh! Here comes TERRY SUTHER, the first pioneer into space. It seems as if we ' ve landed right in his front yard. Well, it matters not, because PAT BLACKWELDER, a famous scien- tific farmer on earth, will surely be able to grow some grass in the skinned places. Terry I see is still nice and healthy. I think it is mainly because of STEVE BEAVER, the nation ' s finest meat specialist, has been instructing his cooks, HARLEY RHINEHARDT and JOHNNY SCOTT very well. Mr. Beaver received his great fame as a meat packer back at Colonial Frozen Foods. ANGENELLE YOW is starting the moon ' s first newspaper Moon Gazette” sometime this week with the help of her brother PAUL, second only in talent to Da Vinci. But there are always those people who just aren ' t interested in the space age. ANN OEHLER is traveling with LINDA FOUST, sometimes referred as the second Billy Graham. Ann has a beautiful voice and she directs singing all over the world. BESSIE STOWE is happily married and is still trying to get Jim to work on time. It looks like TRENA FRYE is going to spend a lot of time in Raleigh trying to get her hubby out of State College. ANGIE PRICE is all tied up in her business of directing beauty pageants since she was such a famous winner herself. But she says she couldn ' t have done it if it hand ' t been for TERRY and LINDA SMITH, two beauty specialist from Paris. GARY RODGERS and GARY GENTLE are very happy as mechanics consultants to the great Holman- Moody Corporation. Under their direction SAUNDRA TURNER won fame as the first woman ever to win the World 600. Meanwhile overseas TARELIA JONES and SHARON LINKER are raising a houseful of orphans while waiting for their boy friends who are in service. JOYCE HUGHES remains in Moscow as a special consultant from the President of the United States TIM EDWARDS. JOYCE HILL and PRISCILLA HEGLAR are touring Africa under the guidance of IMOGENE COLLINS, one of our greatest Baptist Missionaries. They also hope to be servants of the church. SHELBY FINK and DIANNE COLLINS and DIANE TUCKER run the world ' s largest reducing salon and beauty palace located on the French Riveria where STEVE KISER is making history as the world ' s smoothest talking Casanova. BONNIE CAUDILL and ERNESTINE CROMER are stern competition for the world ' s largest string of drive-in movies. DIANNE DOSTER is head nurse at Charlotte Memorial Hospital. Once a week JOHNNY JOHNSON drops by to give art lessons to some of the patients. ROBERT HOWELL now at Patrick Air Force Base has been promoted to second-in-command. BEVERLY BENSON now has her own Y.W.C.A. where she teaches gym classes. In her em- ployment are TREVA COLLINS and NANCY ALLEN, two experts on physical fitness. Just a few of our former classmates stayed in the teaching profession. JEAN BROWN, with her Masters in both French and English, is teaching at the University of North Carolina at Greens- boro. MARY ANN BRADFORD and JUDY BENSON, two of the nation ' s best vocalists, after quitting show biz are teaching music. REGINA PRICE is administrator of the Home Economics Department. On the local scene Dover ' s chain stores, run by DARRELL ALLMAN, are beginning to compete with BOBBY ALLMAN ' S A P food stores. Well, I can say these have been very interesting observations, but we must get back to bring up another load of moon seekers. When we left, JOE PLOTT and DON CROWE were heading the waiting line for the trip to the moon, after giving up their life of fun, frolic and travel for a look at another world.
