DEDICATION MR. J.B. MITCHELL We, the Senior Class of 1961, with greatest respect, and deepest appreciation, dedicate the 1961 Odell Milestones to Mr. J. B. Mitchell. Always ready and willing to help us with any problems that we encountered, his con- tinued encouragement and guidance have opened our young eyes to new horizons and stim- ulated our interests in new fields of endeavor. Because of his interest and never ceasing desire to help up, he has made many friends, at Odell, who hold him in high esteem and will cherish his friendship, always, with the greatest devotion. To you, Mr. Mitchell, who turned our many bewildering moments into enriching ex- periences, we dedicate this book. 3

THROUGH THESE DOORS... Through These Doors, the theme expressed throughout the 1961 Milestones, the youth discover their own world of friends, joys, and. ..problems. Through each door they find challenging opportunities, which not only teach them how to accept responsibility, but also mold their personalities. The students are led to knowledge and to a better understanding of life by the ADMIN- ISTRATION. Through CLASSES, the world of facts and figures is revealed to them. The doors of ACTIVITIES open to situations which teach them how to become better citizens, and also give the students a sense of belonging. FEATURES supply the little extras, add Life to the school schedule, and provide an interesting side line. Through the doors of ATHLETICS each student, whether playing or watching, gains school spirit. This strengthens the school and also provides a closer feeling of unity between the students. These are the doors which open early in the young person’s life, and do not close until the student has been given every opportunity to realize his capabilities and to go on to better things, by his passage.
