For class '51 will bring great renown, In years still to come, to our fair town. Lend us your ears, and we'll tell you rnore. We would sit in our classes, 'way back in ninth year, Our thoughts, not on Latin or hist'ry or math, But rather, the words of the profs in our ears Became classbook, class pins, much to their wrath. In june came the prom, April Showers the theme, Decorating was fung the night was a dream. Graduation brought spirits that were high and low, For we hated to leave, we wanted to go. Senior high school was ready to bid us hel1o. Next September found us, the new sophomores, Eagerly waiting at north and south doors, To set into motion the get up and go That soon introduced our Soph Talent Show, The soph hop-successful, the Bulletin-new. And then a new year-King Arthur's motte, Gregg and his system, the hand that was short. Our Junior Show, too, the school cried Encore! And so, in our next year, we gave them some more! We started with Christmas cards, not given but sold, To bring to our treasury Fort Knox's gold. Then benefit nights, Our Hearts . . Young and Gay, The football concession- Dogs, take 'em away! The revenue found, we could then well afford To pay for the Prom from our little hoard. School days fast ending, perhaps some were bad, But in spite of our troubles, most of them glad. THE GAUNTLET You haven't turned in your story yet? But we go to press today! What familiar cry this is to members of the Gauntlet staff, who are famous for turning out an ex- cellent magazine ten minutes before the deadline-and they do this four times a year! This is evidenced by the fact that this year the Columbia Scholastic Press Association again awarded the Gamztlet a first place rating. It has as its main put- pose the raising of funds to help finance other class activities, which include the yearbook and the prom. The class of '51 selected as its play Miss Cornelia Otis Skinner's comedy Our Heart: Were Young and Gay, adapted from the book of the same title by Miss Skinner and Miss Emily Kimbrough. The story deals with the adventures of two young American girls, traveling alone from New York to Paris. Early in the senior year, the ca.st was chosen on the basis of auditions given before Mrs. Norman Cox, high school dramatics coach and the director of our play.
