THE PURPLE AND GOLD SCHOOL NOTES PRIZES The announcement of Founders Day with its prize speaking contest awakens in the energetic and conscientious pupils a desire for some of the prizes awarded annually. Among these prizes are those given to winning par- ticipants in the prize speaking contest. Any pupil, boy or girl. freshman or senior, who has not previously won a first prize, may compete for the Spauld- ing Declamation Prizes. Hon. Rolland H. Spaulding of Rochester, a member of the board of trustees, is the donor of the prizes, which amount to fifty dol- lars. The flrst prizes are fifteen dollars each, and the second prizes are ten dol- lars each. This year these were awarded in two divisions, Humorous and Dramatic. It is not unusual for a freshman competing against upper classmen to win prizes. Three out of the four awards were won by freshmen. The seniors for four years strive for the special prizes which are awarded to the members of their class on graduation night. THE SETH F. DAWSON PRIZE These beautiful silver trophies are given each year to the boy and girl who has the highest scholastic standing of all those who have won letters in athletics and have exemplified a high type of sportsmanship, thus rewarding the Cardinal Virtues of Education, namely Health, Command of Fundamental Processes and Vlforthy Use of Leisure Time. Last year the recipient of the boy's cup was Philip Lord, and the girl's cup was awarded to Blanche Dorr. THE NUTE HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI PRIZE The Nute High School Alumni Association offers a prize of ten dollars to the member of the graduating class, who during his four years, has maintained the highest standard of scholarship, Last year this prize was awarded to Blanche Dorr. COBB MEMORIAL PRIZE The Henry E. Cobb Memorial Prize is given by Mrs. llenry E. Cobb and her daughter. Miss Helen Cobb. This prize is for the member of the graduation class who, during his four years, shows the greatest improvement in his command of written and spoken English, and in his knowledge of English literature. Fifteen dollars is thus awarded to some senior who has persevered when he has found the Work difficult. Last year the winner of this prize was Ruth Dixon. THE FOX MEMORIAL PRIZE Ten dollars is awarded each boy and girl who, during the four years, has most closely approached a high ideal of school citizenship. The Elbridge VV.
