Safer to Learn T955 O-NQENDA-O THE STUDENTS OF NUNDA CENTRAL SCHOOL NUNDA -LIVINGSTON COUNTY- NEW YORK '50 garfh la Serve FOREWO RD Nunda Central School June 1955 Dear Readers, It has beena pleasure for me to be the editor of the 10th Anniversary edition of O-NONDA-O. The yearbook staff sincerely hopes that you will appreciate our efforts in producing a new and different yearbook. Our main goal has been to providea picture book, omitting the usual Written explanations which have been included in the past. Really it is the pictures which one enjoys most. The staff also desired to bring the curriculum into the book by providing informal pictures of the vari- ous classes. You will notice the entirely different arrangement of pictures. We have placed them in their natural order by beginning with the kinder- garten and placing the seniors at the end. Our theme, Enter to Leamg Go Forth to Serve, symbolizes a thought which is repeated throughout the entire book. Enter to Leam in- cludes the grade pictures, activities, and sports: while Go Forth to Serve includes the seniors and faculty. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the art, literary, and advertising staffs and the advisors, Mr. Couture, Mrs. Hall, Mr. Pentick, and Mr. Schumaker, as well as Mr. Rathbun, photographerg and Mr. Burt, printer, for their excellent cooperation in helping to make this 10th Anniversary edition of 1955 O-NONDA-O a yearbook of which We are very proud. Sincerely yours, 1955 o-NONDA-o Editor ALMA MATER Hail to our Alma Mater! Hail to her halls of fame. Our loyal voices let us raise, In praises of thy name. We sing of hope so great and bright, We sing of faith so strong. We'll cherish, love and honor thee, Nunda, hear our song. Mr, Ralph Asmus Mrs. Margaret Asmus DEDICATION We, the students of Nunda Central School, respectfully dedicate this 10th Anniversary edition of O-NONDA-O to Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Asmus. Their thoughtfulness and kindness has been and will be a part of all of us through the years. THE ESSENCE OF FRIENDSHIP 0hl The comfort, the inexpressible cornfort of feeling safe with a persong having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but to pour thegn all out, just as they are, chaff and grain together, knowing that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and then, with the breath of kindness, blow the rest away. Since only two lettermen were returning who had to be used in new positions, it necessitated the development of an entirely new team for Nunda. We had many interested freshmen and a couple of capable sophomores to fill in the seven vacant positions. ' Bob Thompson, Bob O'Connell, Dick Beardsley and Leon Youngblood were the seniors who held the team together and made it possible for us to have a winning season. Dick Kernahan did much of our pitching: however, when we gOt in a jam, Bob Thompson came in from center field to take over the mound chores. Ken Preston edged out Bob Thompson for the batting championship. Bob O'Connel1 and Dick Beardsley made a nice keystone combination. Four regulars were lost by graduation and we fear two more through injuries. We had a nice bunch of fellows and a lot of fun winning 5 and losing 4. SC OR ES Nunda ll Wayland Nunda 0 Mt. We went all the way to the sec- tional finals before dropping a heartbreaking 3-2 decision to the Golden Knights of Pittsford. We started the season with a 9-3 win over Wayland before playing afine Fillmore team to a 1-1 tie. The next week We went back to Fillmore and easily outpointed them 9-6. At Wayland we ran into a roughhouse and lost in the last minute 5-2. We then traveled to Hornell and took a 4-1 decision to avenge last year's loss. In sectional competition we beat Byron-Bergen on their field 2-0. We had to play Fillmore at Canaserage in the semi-finals and came up with a solid 3-0 win. The finals were played in a sea of mud at Geneseo and we lost to a good Pittsford team 3-2. Pete Hoagland was outstanding in the goal. Gormel, Preston and Twist were very good halfbacks. Somers, Sny- der, Mehlenbacher, Long and Kernahan did most of our scoring. Many of the boys will be back next fall, when we hope for another good season. 41 Nunda Nunda Nunda Nunda Nunda Nunda Nunda Nunda Nunda Nunda Nunda Nunda Nunda Nunda Nunda Nunda SCORES Angelica Dansville Avon Geneseo Lima Livonia Wayland York Mt.
