Outstanding points of the lronmen attack were the running halfbacks, Chuck Berry and Steve Turner, and the pass catching of right end, Dale Feltenburger, NOWATA 6 CUSHING 20 Although winning the game by a large margin statistically, the lronrnen dropped a 204: decision to the Cushing Tigers on lronmen Memorial Field. For the lronmen it was a case of fumbles with two key interceptions by the Tigers on the Cushing goal line. DON PRICE Senior End NOWATA 36 VINITA 0 A tough defense and a lighteningefasi offense were the keys to Nowata's 36-O vic- tory over the Vinita Hornets in their VV conference opener. Each lronman starting back broke into the scoring column as the lronrnen tumed two fumbles into touch- downs. NOWATA 36 PAWHUSKA 6 Behind the running of Tailback, Chuck Berry, who scored two touchdowns and passed for two more, the Nowata lronrnen defeated the Pawhuska Huskies 36-6, for their second conference victory. The high- light of the game was an 89-yard run by Berry, one of the longest ever made by an lronman back. NOWATA T4 CLAREMORE T6 The Claremore Zebras threw the Ironmen for their first conference loss with a T6-T4 score. Although Nowata was considered five touchdowns better, the Zebras received the victory. For the Ironmen it was a bad case of no pass defense, as the 219 yards passing indicated, and not being able to mount any offensive attack. W NOWATA 26 MIAMI 26 The Ironmen ended the l958 season in exciting fashion by tying the Miami War- dogs 26-26, Although the game was played on a sloppy field and amid heavy showers it was a game with plenty of scoring ac- tion. Chuck Berry was the scoring leader with I4 points but the most exciting run was provided by Fullback Ronnie Bloom, who went 64 yards for a second quarter TD.
