Senior Class Prophecy My trip to Arkansas where I was attending the National Hog Calling Contest last week was a great pleas ure because I met so many of my old friends Immediately upon my arrival I signaled for a red cap and imagine who came to help me Duane Law son and he looked funny as ever in his bright red hat During my conversatron with him I learned that he had finally settled down and was married to Cork I waded my way to the front of the station and finally managed to hail a cab The most kind and cour teous guy helped me put my luggage in the car and to my surprise I found it was Richard Wellman my old classmate I wanted to go straight to the auditorium where the contest was betng held so those were the 1n structions I gave my old friend I was so happy that Richard still looked and drove the same I dug in my pocket for my ticket and finally came up with one half of it If I hadn t known the ticket girl I might never have gotten in You see I knew Mary Frost had been working there for some time She said she thought her chances of catchmg a man was getting worse and she was about ready to Just settle for a hog This contest lasts for about three days and I had loads of time I was about to give up hope of finding a date for supper that night when l ran into another old friend quite by accident Elame Grubrtch accepted my invitation to supper and I suppose she had just finished taking pictures of the hog calling contest We drned at the Sopper Club where the Hillbilly Highsteppers attracted our attentron 1 A second look at them gave us a show of familiar faces and legs Helen May Norma Ronchetto Anna Mae Sullivan Glenda Strdmon Elaine Jones and starring Ivy Wallace The next day I decided to walk to the Hog Calling Contest and on my way who should I chance to run into but Loretta Mosley dressed tn the latest Paris fashions and leading a French Poodle I asked her what she was doing in Grinders Switch with an outfit like that on and she politely informed me that there had been a delay at the tram station and her tram for New York was late The contest got under way about 9 00 w1th the women s hog calling class Wanda Srmrler was the frrs contestant She was in good form as she has been calling hogs on her husband s farm for the last 6 years fence and let out with one of the durndest lnvltatxons to a hog that I ve ever heard The Judges were none other than Ralph Hover Eugene Dyer and Jim Riley who had attended the Columbus University tn Canada for lawyers and had become nationally known Hog Calling authorities They were accompanied to the Hog Calling Contest by their w1ves Paula fHoerrmann5 Hover Marllyn fLawsony Dyer and Glenda fSt1dmony Riley They did choose Mary as the wrnner That evening I got together with all of the old friends I had met at Grinder Switch at the Middleton Midnight Manor Phyllis fRayj and Eddie Middleton Proprietors We were having a good laugh about Miss Bills being dunked by Carroll Hills on our Senior trip when we were interrupted by a fam1l1ar voice shouting cigarettes cigarettes and as I glanced up I noticed it was none other than Liz Novinger She told us she had become a cigarette girl because she liked being a round food We all sat down to watch the floor show which was starring todays teen age heartthrob Irshel Hocker and his accompanist Lois Truitt He gave his rendition of the old standard Hound Dog As I walked to the hotel l stopped to buy a newspaper and who do you suppose was selllng Grinder Switch Gazettes but Buddy Childers The headlines of my newspaper read Arthur and Wanda Lee Fabulous Texas O11 Multi Millionaires In Town I immediately decided to meet them at their hotel and hailed a taxi I told the dr1ver Gary Lloyd to rush me to the Gaspen Hotel second home of famous persons owned by Charles Gasperl When we were stopped for speeding I was astorushed to discover that the cop was Albet Ellsworth After a short v1s1t with the Lees I Martha Smith boarded my train which took me to Hollywood to Join my husband Kenneth Neff We are planning to make the movie Meeting Old Friends 49 Several others gave out with their hog calls, but none topped Wanda until Mary Leonard climbed on the

Wi- SO' ig but Crownmg One of the most successful social events of the year was the NO- WI-CA Yearbook Dance. The highlight of the evening was the crowning of the King and Queen. The candidates were: Martha Kay Smith and Duane Lawson, Seniorsg Rose Marie Amedei and Larry Muir, Juniorsg Ruth Carol Darr and Gary Blurton, Sophomoresg Gloria Hoerrmann and Jackie Pickett, Freshmen. The judges were the Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity and the Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority. It was a difficult decision indeed, but the judges finally chose Martha Kay and Larry. Hail the Royal Couple! 51
