The fheme for floafs was commercials and fhe band 'lied wi+h lhe sophomores for firsl place. I+ was a warming vic+oryl The following nighl' fhe dance was held in fhe high school commons which had been in+eres+ingly decorafed by fhe S+uden+ Government Everyone was dressed semi- formally and had a good 'lime dancing +o 'lhe beaf of +he group, Dream On. The squad consisfed of 'Ihir-Ieen hard working girls including squad leaders Shelly Mar+in, Debbie MacKay and Leslie Tyler. Cap+ains were Judy Kroefsch during fool- ball season and Debbie Morandy during baske+baII. The girls pu+ in a Io+ of +ime and hard work, having prac+ices in Ihe morning, aHer school and nigh+s. They came up wi+h many good rou+ines including Grease, Basin S+ree'I BIues, and Peg during foo+baII, and Tigh+rope and Le Freak during baskefball. Las+ summer, 'Ihey wen+ +o drill Ieam camp. The pasT year Novi hosTed The DisTricT Band FesTival where we earned a FirsT Division raTing. They performed 'Iwo maior concerfs under fhe supervision of fheir new feacher, Mrs. Paula Joyner. The fall and spring concerfs furned ouf very well, drawing some of fhe Iargesf audi- ences fo affend a choral offering in recenf memory. The Novi Singers was a group newIy cre- afed by Mrs. Joyner 'ro offer sfudenfs some- fhing differenf in choral experience. Nof onIy did fhey sing very recenf, up-fempo arrangemenfs, buf fhey added dance move' menfs as well. Mosf of fhe sixfeen who were chosen for fhe group reaIIy enioyed if. The chorus prepared for concerfs during fiffh hour daily and puf in exfra hours as performances drew near. Some Novi s+uden+s wenf all fhe way +o s+a+e compeiiiion. They were Lynn McLaughlin, Peggy Daley, Saniiv Sanghvi, and Vince Noble. Saniiv Sanghvi was one of Novi's besl speakers being awarded a Firsf af Region- als, a Firs+ al Disfricls, a Firsf a+ Brighfon, and a Fourfh Place a+ Dearborn. La+er he qualified for lhe S'I'al'e Finals. O+hers who also did well were Glenn Caudell, Richard Cheri, and Pal Brune'H. These producfions, direc+ed by Peggy Daley and slarring Tim Chuck Pope, were a huge success.
