Homecoming week of 1979 was exciting as ever with everyone participating. All through the week beginning Monday morning all three classes decorated the halls. The halls were really special this year with the Sophomores overdecorating the Juniors and Seniors. Starting out the exciting week was ‘'slop” day with everyone in their oldest clothes. Wednesday was just as exhilarating with all the ''greasers’’ sliding about in t-shirts and poodle skirts. Thursday was official '‘mascarade” day. There were brilliant costumes with a lot of ‘‘Dollys’”’ running or shall we say ‘‘bouncing” around. As these activities went on the classes worked hard on their floats with plenty of enthusiasm with the Juniors coming out ahead. Tuesday came around with class color day. Everyone had scraped up some kind of outfit with their class color in it. As Friday finally approached everyone was ready to let their maroon and gold colors and spirit show at the hour pep rally. There were skits by the classes and cheerleaders, dance routines by the cheerleaders, a musical number by the band, spirit chain, and the spirit stick. All classes showed participation and enthusiasm. The Seniors won the skit, spirit chain, and spirit stick. Juniors came out with first place in the float and, of course, those Sophomores came out with the best hall. Friday after school the traditional parades were given with spirited cheerleaders, gliding floats, beautiful princesses, marching bands, and Charlie Cougar’. That night everyone was waiting for the exciting game with Bluestone. As the game had begun everyone awaited half-time activities with the princesses and the band. Sandra Jefferson was our 1979 queen with Deborah Procise as lst runner-up and Page Rainey as 2nd runner-up. As the game ended the high spirit of the Cougar fans was cut low with a loss of 30-18 to Bluestone. But all was forgotten at the Homecoming dance with the theme being ‘Ain’t No Stopping Us Now”. This ended one of many great homecoming weeks at NSH. This for sure will be in the records of Nottoway Senior High! AGQasCORiRS Dexter Payne (10), Rosa Branch (1978 Homecoming Queen), Ms. Coleman (SCASpon- Linda Utley portrays an old man on sor),and Earl Coleman (33) await the announcement of the 1979 Homecoming Queen.
