Carl Eictietberg. DUDLEY DOUST DUDLEY Dousr, Vice-President of the Senior Class. has gone through Nottingham with the niclc-name of lVlonlc.,' He was also a memher of the haslcethall team lor three years and played first hase on the baseball team for three years. Another past president ol Hi-Y, Ulvlonlcsu other activities included. Student Council, Student Guide. Corridor Guides, Citizen, and Girls. If you'il loolc on the uVVho's Vvhon page youlll find that nlxflorilcn is also a class celebrity since he was voted the hest hoy athlete of the senior class. This only goes to prove that lVlonlc,' is an all around person who is hound to go far after graduation. His personality and efforts have done much to make Nottingham a loetter school. GARY OREN STEIN GARY ORENSTEIN or Peg Leg as he is sometimes called, besides being president of the Class of '47 has been very active in school activities, especially sports. He has played on the basketball team for the three years he has been at Nottingham, and has played hasehall for two years, acting as pitcher for the last year. A year on Student Council, a year as a Student Guide, and three years as a member of Hi-Y the was president for one of those years, constitute the rest of Gary's activities. He was voted the most popular hoy in the senior class too, proving that in the eyes of his fellow class- mates as well as in the eyes of the rest of the school, Gary is one swell guy and a regular fellow. W K p af. s if 4 L, CARI JI. MENAPACE Perhaps no other student can hoast as lair! a record in school activities as can CTAROI. lx'lliNAPACli. It was partly he-cause ol this splendid record that she was appointed hy a lacully committee to hold the iolm ol Class Treasurer. She has lmeen a Student Guide, a Corridor Guide, Editor and Business lvlan- ager ol the Citizen. Co-llditor ol the Year- lmoolc. Vice - President and Secretary ol Tawasi 'l4riAY, captain ol a lmaslcetlmall team, manager ol ilu- volleylmall team, manager ol tht- howling team, assistant coach ol the servwus hall team, a memher ol' the hand. and a memlmer ol Girls' League Council. Such a record stands lor itsell and needs little extra comment except than you did a swell joh. Carol, and Nottingham is proud ol you. . 1 . JOAN BUTLER One of the most prominent girls in the senior class is JOAN BUTLER. the class secre- tary. iDuring her three years at Nottingharil she has actively participated in Student Council, being nominated lor vice - presi- dency ol the school. Student Guides, Corri- dor Guides, A Cappella Choir, Girls, Choir, and Tri-Y. Voted the hest natured girl of the senior class, Joan has cheered up many a downcast student who has wallced hy her post in the hall or a hall awalce member of A Cappella Choir who has dragged himself to an eight oicloclc rehearsal. uJoanie, as she is niclc-named, came to Nottingham from Charles Andrews and will leave Nottingham a little hit sadder after her departure. IIPICII Sliifvy, PRGPHECY OF THE CLASS OF '47 The time is evening of the year 1967. The sun is just sinking behind the jagged line of the Rockies, those mountains discovered by the renowned explorers Naomi Aarons and Skippy Schenker. VV e are gathered around the roaring fireplace at the fabulous Q - T Bar ,- whoops, the typewriter slipped ,-1 Bar Q - T Ranch, owned and operated by those lovelies of the wide-open spaces Jim Shumaker, John Moore, and Don Bab- cock. The prominent feature of the rambling living room is the old stone fireplace, over which hangs the portrait of Dot Cortwright and her lovely Park Avenue family. Seated in a horse haired chair is Eddie Dyre, now a respectable lawyer, who be- gins singing the old favorite 'Aopen the Bottles, Richard to Dick Buck, who is behind the bar. Instantly he is joined by the professional male quartet of Fussy Williams, Bill Crowell, Don Hoople, and Dick Tarr. These singing sensations have come to spend a quiet week-end for the Class of '47 reunion which was instigated by Jean Bario and Barb Bushnell, those two secretarial sharpies. As we sit reminiscing, Joan McAllister limps in after a hard day on the range, complaining bitterly about her stable boy, Joe Beith. We follow her slow, painful footsteps into the bar, where we find four happy bar tenders fit's a big barj, Art Roberts, Dick Buck, Russ King, and Don Dunham. doling out the phosphates and other liquid refreshments. Our hosts have been receiv- ing complaints from foreman Bernie Berkman about the lack of profits. Could be the happy bar tenders . . . mm-m-m? We are all reclining in hopes of a quiet evening when in stumbles Ann faw, come on, horse, whoa, Kinney and Jean fI'll die with my boots onj Macviccar, exhausted from a week's work prospecting in the gold hills. They have been trying to out- prospect their city competitors, Marilyn Corbett and Milly Furman, employees of Dolan and Doust's Junky Jewelry Shoppe. Kinney and MacViccar are led to comfortable chairs by Lawrence J. Sherman, Jr., and William Francis Hable, Jr. The next arrivals prove to be the troop of wondering artists led by Don Mar- shall and Ginny Braybrook. They are closely followed by Joan Butler, Barb Brown, and Sally Farr. My, remember when they used to be seen sketching Fellows and Vvest- moreland? As yet we have had no further Word from Muscles Vvalser and Power- housen Nevin, who from the last reports had stopped in Simms City, where they were employed as bronco busters by Stacey's Stables. The stable boy dashes in, trips over Salomy the pet pig, picks himself up hurriedly, and shouts excitedly to our eminent horse doctor, Dick Severance, L.S.M.F.T .... N.C., that the prize stallion has collapsed under the tremendous weight of Bernie Frank. What excitement! After a few hours of idle talk, the lights are dimmed, and the three piece orchestra under the direction of Tom Hough, with Don Lawless fa cigar clamped in his teeth, at the harp, Harold Kimmey at the drums, and Arnie Goldberg at the tuba, strikes up a fanfare as our M. C. Gary Crenstein steps forward to introduce the guest of the evening, the Metropolitan star, Nancy Lamb. Elizabeth Marmor, popular boogie woogie player, accompanies the artist in her famous rendition of Sylvia The program is then turned over to Jerry Rifken, who announces that we will now witness the premier showing of Duel at Drumlinsn starring Pat Conroy, Denah Shapiro, Dave Luebber- mann, and AI Reville fMrs. Hadloclcs protegees, . Speaking of Drumlins, we might men- tion that it is now owned by those ski enthusiasts Pete Graf, Paul Stubbe, and Paul Rood, who no longer have to patronize Turin and Lake Placid. On the mantel the gilt French clock, a present from our prominent ambassador to France, Bob Attridge, strikes twelve. Jerry Kearney yawns fit's pretty late for him, and suggests we hit the hay. However, Sue Keller and Midge Cobb have other ideas, and with courageous disregard for their figures, they lead the way to the kitchen for a midnight snack. Our chief cooks and bottle washers, Jane Barnard and Bunni Barak, are put to work whipping up the snack, which consists of shrimp cocktail, caviar and crackers, roast pheasant, scalloped potatoes garnished with pieces of parsley, Haming plum pudding, and champagne with milk chasers. Uust a snack, you know., Barb Healy is elaborating on the subject of why you're not supposed to serve champagne with milk chasers, and we listen attentively to her theory . . . a Smith graduate, you know . . . Our three sleepy Goldwyn girls realize that all this is just too, too much for them and stagger otf to bed. You would hardly recognize these lively lovelies as being Phyl Roderick, Joanne Hunt, and Marilyn Reynolds. As they are about to reach the top step, they are thrown violently against the Wall by a terrific explosion originating from the work shop in the rear. Professor Alan Chadwick and Doctor Seabury Ward are at it again. Will they ever find the true formula for Atomic Nuclear Stinkbombs? Harold McGrath, the present world tennis champion, grabs his prize winning racket and rushes out to heroically sacrifice it in extinguishing the fire. Failing to accomplish this, he summons the ranch's voluntary tire department, whose members, Arthur Damon, Paul Mason, Lee Short, and Darwin Mirisolofi, dash madly to the scene pulling the fire truck. perched on the truck are the honorary members ot the voluntary fire depart- ment, HDimpy Waters, Upinkyn Burt, and mlqeetersn Vincent. They extinguish the blaze, and peace once more desce . . . r- oops! Here comes someone else. lt's Russ Sawyer stopping in to say Hi to the '47 reunion on his way to attend the '-46. The only regret he voices is that the Syracuse Board of Education would not make an excep- tion in his case and let him P. G. more than three terms. HISTORY OF THE CLASS OF 1947 As we, the class ol 1947 ol Nottingham High School, come to the close of our high school career, we stop to glance baclc on the many happy and profitable years spent within its gates. We pause to reflect on the accomplishments and activities ol: our class and cannot fail to note with what degree of success members of our class are graduat- ing. We are proud of our school, we are proud of our faculty who have so wisely guided us through these important years of our life: we are also proud of our classmates. Our class seems to favor the girls as far as scholarships and high honors are con- cerned. For our class valedictorian we have Elizabeth Marmor, who has received a hall tuition piano scholarship, and for salutatorian there is Elaine Kerner, who is going to be a psychiatrist. We of the feminine sex pay tribute to these girls. We feel that we as a class have a distinction all our own as we are the first class graduating under the able administration of Mr. Kane. We hope we haven't caused too many gray hairs or unllattering wrinlcles for him. Qur well-lcnown Citizen staff has lcept busy even with their overseas shipments stopped. Working hard on this staff have been Carol Menapace, Bev Wallace, Milly Furman, .loan Bennett, Anita Patel, and Ruth Goldstein. Our class officers who have worlced so hard to malce this graduating year a success are Gary Orenstein, President: Dud Doust, Vice-President: .loan Butler, Secretary: Carol Menapace, Treasurer. Some of our all-'round fellows in sports are Gary Orenstein, Dud Doust, and Otto Bauerle. Qn the feminine side we have Migs Vvalser, who is having three stars added to her bloclc letter and Jane Nevin and Carol Menapace, who are each receiv- ing two stars. The musically inclined students of Nottingham have found adequate facilities through which they might express their ability. The long established orchestra, band. and choir have been the principal means of such expression. These organizations have prospered not only through the untiring efforts of Jerry Saclcett but also through the faithfulness of such classmates as Nancy Lamb in the choir and Dave Bishop, Harold McGrath, Bill Carlton, Bill Murray, Bill Crowell, Carol Menapace, Bev Wallace, Diclc Tart, Paul Rood, and Go-Go Stevens in the band. Not in these organizations but prominent in the music field are Jo Anne Young and Elizabeth Marmor. The year 1947 has also found a much demanded A Cappella Choir. Our educational success has depended largely upon the understanding advice of our highly rated teaching stall, dean, and principals. Much appreciation is also felt by the Class of '47 for the efforts ol: the vocational department, the librarian, the office staii, the cafeteria service, and custodians, who have made our school life easier and happier. These people will always be regarded as the literal foundations to which our class and those to come can attribute their basic achievements. Reflecting on our short career at Nottingham, it is with sadness that we leave to educate ourselves in the field of life. Here we have learned to value the everlasting vir- tues ,-f responsibility, obedience, leadership, and sociability. Unconsciously we have acquired admiration for these characteristics, and it is only now, as we part, that we consider our gains. Now, as the portals of our high school career close behind us, we proudly acclaim with unbounding enthusiasm our admiration for Nottingham -1 past, present, and future.
