New York Comes to KC As the lights slowly dimmed, the crowd came to a bewildered hush. The mystery of Prom '82 was about to be revealed. The spotlight flashed upon the lighted bridge and glittering skyline of New York, New York, the prom theme. After the crowd simmered down, the girls and their escorts were announced. To the audience’s surprise, many of the girls dazzled them with their untraditional attire. Some appeared in Vogue wearing the new “tea length or, more commonly known, “ballet length”. Others had chosen flowing, ruffled ball gowns. The moment had arrived for the Prom Queen to be proclaimed. The junior class elected Denise Ivey Queen with Patty Flack, Andrea Eddy and Laura Sandifer as her attendants. At eight o’clock juniors, seniors, and their escorts ar- rived at a dinner-dance held at one of Kansas City’s most renowned hotels, the Radisson Muehlebach. There all enjoyed a sumptuous dinner and danced un- til midnight. Maggie Fisher, the Prom Chairman, com- mented, I think, as a whole, the junior class really pulled together and all contributed to produce a magnificent Prom. I 58 Prom

Seniors Begin Search for Space” As the morning sun streamed in the stained glass windows of the Lower School Chapel, the seniors proudly filed into their pews. Here they celebrated their final mass to- gether. In his homily. Father Tom Minges challenged each senior to find her own direction and to fol- low it. He wished each girl luck in her search for her own space”, the theme carried out in music, lessons, and the graduation banner designed by the Class of ’82. After Communion, Janie Vader shared a poem she had written to tell her classmates how much she treasured their love and friendship. During the Sign of Peace each senior gave her mother a carnation and her father a copy of the lyrics to Sometimes”. Later in the mass the fifty-six very emotional seniors sang that song to their parents to thank them for all their love and support. After singing their class song, Looking for Space”, the seniors left the peaceful refuge of the chapel and began their hectic graduation day with breakfast at the Hyatt Hotel with their families and members of the Sion faculty and staff.
