New York Comes to KC As the lights slowly dimmed, the crowd came to a bewildered hush. The mystery of Prom '82 was about to be revealed. The spotlight flashed upon the lighted bridge and glittering skyline of New York, New York, the prom theme. After the crowd simmered down, the girls and their escorts were announced. To the audience’s surprise, many of the girls dazzled them with their untraditional attire. Some appeared in Vogue wearing the new “tea length or, more commonly known, “ballet length”. Others had chosen flowing, ruffled ball gowns. The moment had arrived for the Prom Queen to be proclaimed.
