Team “Commits Suicide’ Each day the pitter patter of mysterious feet tram- pled through the school, out the doors, up to Red Bridge, and around Avila. We did not hear them again until they hit our backs with a mighty clamor. All this work produced a team of winners consisting primarily of freshmen and sophomores; however, the few junior and senior members added significantly to the team. Ms. Powell put each track member through a system she called circuit training”, otherwise known to the team as seven minutes to commit suicide”. This train- ing consisted of: push ups, sit ups, jumping rope, run- ning through the halls and stairs, and the shuttle run. Lori Janssen, a sophomore who has been on the team for two years, commented, “It’s a lot of fun! Ev- erybody gets along well and I met a lot of new peo- ple. The 1982 track team was coached by Ms. Powell and her assistant coach Ms. Miller. Sophomores Stella Hannon and Mary Nestle were the managers.
