Staff Works Late to Solve Mystery of ’82 After attending local, state, and national workshops concerning modern yearbook design, the staff and sponsor of LeFlambeau felt ready to delve into the Mystery of the '82 yearbook. Developing the largest staff in the history of Sion and a new sponsor into a unit was the job of Editor-in-Chief Gillian Turner, who showed no hesitation in tackling the difficult chore. Even though the '81 yearbook won All-Missouri ranking and a Second Place from the Columbia Scho- lastic Press rating service, both judges listed the need for improved picture reproduction. Staff photographers printed and reprinted to improve clarity, and the en- tire staff voted to shift to a glossier paper to improve contrast. Another '82 innovation was the naming of two junior editors to supplement the senior leaders who tradition- ally have held such positions. Lisa McClain, a junior who stepped in to fill a vacancy as copy editor, com- mented, ‘‘It is a new and challenging experience to be one of the youngest editors in Sion's history. I am proud of my job.” After new sponsor Mrs. joan Speidel moaned, Once a week is not enough!” the eleven new staff members and six veterans joined her in giving time beyond the long Wednesday afternoons and evenings to produce a lasting record of the mysteries of another unique Sion year. A. Le Flambeau staff editors Gillian Turner, Pam Grant, Heather Grosko, Patty Flack, Debbie Lyon, and Lisa McClain investigate some mysterious footprints. B. Debbie Lyon reviews copy for a headline idea. 44 Yearbook B

Team Drives to State Sion golfers had a victorious year, with five wins and two losses in the regular season. They followed these triumphs by taking second place in both the Dis- trict and the Plattsburg tournaments. Placing in Dis- tricts qualified four girls for entry in the state playoffs in Columbia, Missouri. Accompanied by new coach, Kay Miller, team leaders Ann Kryger, Susan Finlen, Vickie Huerter, and Susie Huerter spent two exhaust- ing days playing matches in the Missouri mud. In spite of the poor weather conditions, they emerged with a ranking of ninth place for the state. Upon their return from the State Tournament, Susie Huerter reported, It was a great feeling that, after all the hard weeks of practice we put in, we were re- warded by going to State.” Susan Finlen added, “We got to meet a lot of neat people from other districts by going to Columbia.” All the team members and alternate Kelly Karr spoke enthusiastically of the support and guidance of Kay Miller, their coach. Her many hours spent in making arrangements for meets and transportation made it possible for the golfers to concentrate on im- proving their games. In planning for next year, Miss Miller plans to recruit both present and incoming stu- dents, for three of the current players will graduate. Girls with golf experience and enthusiasm for the game will be needed to fill the spots left vacant by the steady seniors of this past season. 46 Go If
