Editors Lead the Way Les Vitraux, Sion’s literary magazine for aspiring writers, contains poems, short stories, and other articles. These works are contributed by students who are willing to share their talents with the rest of the school community through this annual publication. At the suggestion of Miss Angela Fasci, sponsor, the 1982 group was organized as an editorial staff rather than under a single editor. This change was designed to enable the members to work as a whole, sharing ideas and opinions. Having an editorial staff proved particularly helpful during the final editing of the magazine, for the work could be distributed among the various staff members instead of drowning one person in all the details. Illustrations were emphasized more strongly this year by Miss Fasci and the staff. The pictures and graphics, all designed and developed by students, highlighted the magazine with originality. Christine Haug, a new contributor to Les Vitraux remarked, “Seeing my writing in print was an exhilirating experience.” 40 Literary Magazine A

Student Journalists Share Talent and Spirit I’ve been on the newspaper staff since my fresh- man year because I enjoy writing and like working with others,” reported Linda Estevez, Editor-in-chief of Lejournal. Linda readily accepts the fact that she must work during her study halls and several days per week after school as deadlines approach each quarter. Her enthusiasm is echoed by sophomore Madelaine Thorpe, who considers work on the paper fun, “because it is important to everyone and they are important to each other.” There are varying reasons for students’ joining the newspaper staff. Some use it for training for a possi- ble career in journalism, while others simply enjoy contributing their talents to the school. The very large group involved in the ’81-’82 editions have worked to- ward improving the written and photographic cover- age as well as the layout style of Le journal. Assisting them were faculty members Cara LaForge during the first semester and Lynn Pierle during second term. News Editor Kate Shatzkin summarized the spirit of the student journalists as she stated, “We have a good staff and things keep looking better and better.
