Clubs Explore Customs Sion's abundance of foreign language students produced three active clubs in ’81-’82. The enthusi- asm of the Spanish Club members was shown through their involvement in activities; for example, many of the members attended a Mexican Spanish mass held at the school in the spring for the Sion student body and Rockhurst Spanish students. Senior members recited poetry and won a prize for originality in the skit they presented at William Jewell College for an Hispanic holiday. The Latin Club returned for the first time in years to show their zeal. Each member paid dues in order that the club could have membership in the junior division of the American Classical League. Club membership also enabled Latin II students to attend the state convention in Columbia in May. For their celebration of the infamous Ides of March the club initiated new Latin students into the mysteries of the day. Later the group decorated Easter eggs and de- livered them to Seton Center as a service project. The members of the French Club introduced Sion students to the wonder of croissants at a breakfast in February. They also sponsored a movie for all French students and a spring songfest. Shelley Col- lier, president, remarked, “I really enjoyed the club. There are so many people that at times we need to be more organized, but otherwise it is great!” 38 Language Clubs

Editors Lead the Way Les Vitraux, Sion’s literary magazine for aspiring writers, contains poems, short stories, and other articles. These works are contributed by students who are willing to share their talents with the rest of the school community through this annual publication. At the suggestion of Miss Angela Fasci, sponsor, the 1982 group was organized as an editorial staff rather than under a single editor. This change was designed to enable the members to work as a whole, sharing ideas and opinions. Having an editorial staff proved particularly helpful during the final editing of the magazine, for the work could be distributed among the various staff members instead of drowning one person in all the details. Illustrations were emphasized more strongly this year by Miss Fasci and the staff. The pictures and graphics, all designed and developed by students, highlighted the magazine with originality. Christine Haug, a new contributor to Les Vitraux remarked, “Seeing my writing in print was an exhilirating experience.” 40 Literary Magazine A
