Actors Master Dialect As the final curtain closed and applause reached their ears, the cast of I Remember Mama” breathed a sigh of relief. Despite being snowed out twice, the spring production was obviously a success. “It was a superb production, and everybody put their all into it,” commented Leacy Tucker about the casts’ efforts. Composed mostly of Sophomores, the cast and crew impressed the audience with their mastery of the Norwegian accent. Even though speaking their lines with the unaccustomed pronounciation was difficult, they stuck with it to add an authentic element to the play. The enthusiasm of the cast for the first spring pro- duction in several seasons was reflected by Tina Martin when she commented, It was great! I’m ready to do it again!” Although a lot of the students in the audience at- tended the play with some hesitation, they were pleasantly surprised. Said Katy Heilman, “It was much better than I had anticipated. I was thoroughly entertained.” A. Clare Nicholson lights up the play. B. Kathy Dresel, Susan McQueeney. Christmas Activities 33 The mystery of Christmas is one of the most cher- ished traditions of Sion. From the moment of the drawing of the names for Kris Kringles. many under- handed activities take place in the spirit of giving and concealing the names of the givers. One morning deco- rated baskets appear on lockers; strings of candy canes hang from teachers’ doors; baked goodies and notes of cheer are slipped into stockings. Let us all try to give more of ourselves this year and less of our pocketbooks, said Sr. Stephanie as she explained the plans for pre-Christmas activities. In re- sponse, there was a surge of creativity from many sources. Handmade dolls, scarves, cards, cookies, and stitchery appeared in cleverly concealed packages. A hallfull of toys and clothes for the Seton Center for community outreach was collected; twenty girls and five faculty members stayed after school to fill cups with candy, cookies, and greenery for local nursing homes. The final Christmas assembly wound up the semes- ter with the unraveling of the Kris Kringle mysteries, as well as with warm greetings exchanged among the staff and students as they left the snow-covered school grounds for a long holiday with their families.
