Practice Pays Reward A clue to one of Sion’s secrets was a costume con- sisting of long black skirts, white blouses, and little red ties. The groups of girls wearing these outfits were known as the Sion Singers. The large freshman, sopho- more, and junior-senior groups were supplemented this year by two new ensembles, one senior and one ju- nior. All these groups were directed by B. C. Bundy first semester and by Debbie Brown during second se- mester. The choral groups presented two concerts, one a dramatic Christmas Vespers and another a Spring Con- cert featuring selections from Broadway musicals. They also competed in the district music festival at Avila College. High ratings achieved there enabled the ju- nior-senior choir and the junior ensemble to enter the state festival at Columbia, Missouri. As they appeared in concert and in competitions, the results of the hours of vocalizing and reworking diffi- cult phrases were apparent to the singers themselves as well as to their appreciative audiences.
