ion - - - Her History Slon's history began in a small, obscure church of Rome, Sant' Andrea delle Pratte. 'Here Our Lady appeared to a young Jewish agnostic, Alphonse Ratisbonne. This powerful event led to his baptism and eventually to Holy Orders. Later Father Marie Alphonse joined his brother, Father Theodore, and together they began a work of prayer and sacrifice, an apostolate for the conversion of their race. Their efforts met with such success that two religious congregations were founded, one of priests and the other of sisters, which have continued the work of the Fathers Ratisbonne and have spread their zeal and teachings all over the world. Now more than a hundred years after her appearance, Our Lady reigns as queen and mother in forty-nine houses of Sion and awaits the day when she can again enter in five sions behind the Iron Curtain. Although each of the houses of Notre Dame de Sion is im- pregnated with the same inherited spirit, our school in Kansas City is dearest to us. It originated on Benton Boulevard in 1912 and moved successively to Prospect, Warwick, and Armour Boulevards now it stands on Sion Hill over looking Gillham Road. As we look up at this stately edifice we see only the expansive comfortable home we have today. To our Notre Mere and to all those, past and present who have made it possible for us to enjoy Sion Hill, we say a heartfelt thank you' In Memoriam On January 18th the sisters lost a beloved member of their community in the person of Mother M. Noemi. Mere Noemi was one of the foundresses of Notre Dame de Sion 'in Kansas City and her former pupils will remember her as an able and enthusiastic teacherl Failing health brought her work in the classroom to an end in 1921. From that time on Mere Noemi's little room became an increasingly active center forthe Apostleship of Prayer for Israel. So out- standing were her efforts that in 1956, she received the Edith Stein Guild's first award for her invaluable work in improving relations between Iews and Catholics . Requiescant in pace.

Nflessage O70 oqlze Qracfuabes Dear Graduates, As always, it is with regret that we say au revoir . Some of you have spent fourteen years at Sion, others only a few, but no matter the time, you are all very dear to us. Your life is like a tapestry. At Sion, you and we have been the weavers. And now the time has come for us to step from behind the loom and together see what we have accomplished. ls charity clearly woven thereon? Do we find the ideal contained in your motto, non sibi sed omnibus ? We know that the tapestry is unfinished but the beginnings are there, so carry on your good work, Graduates. May your efforts always give glory to the Master Weaver and honor to your Alma Mater. God bless you and guide you! Notre Mere Cqracfitlonla y From the Senior stairs to the tiny red crosses of the first graders, all of Sion's traditions are as old as the school, and all are held in high esteem by her students. The wise , mature senior can easily remember back to her first ex- planation of the individual class colors as seen in the cross and belt worn by the students, and in the Cordon awarded to each deserving girl by Notre Mere at the Grande Assemblee. For the Seniors, there are special privileges, like the Senior Stairs and the beloved Senior Room. The Senior ring is, of course, the most cherished possession of all. There are, too, the understood traditions, as well as the material ones. . .like that special feeling of belonging , and the spirit of family life, and the love of God and our Blessed Lady which permeates the halls of Sion and binds us forever to the blessed memory of Notre Dame de Sion.
