IT'S OFFICE PRACTICE HOUR Clikety-klak -- if you pass the door you just have to stop and look again. A person would never believe it the first time. Just think! Twenty-one girls and not one talking A-it's amazing -- it's astounding-it's the office practice class. This class is divided into two periods and during the first one we learn a variety ot' things such as how to manage an office, to act as a receptionist. attend to telephone calls. take letters in shorthand and transcribe them, how to operate different machines used i11 most offices nowadays, and even the intricacies of the tiling cabinets are puzzled out. Besides these necessary fundamentals we even take our turns in acting the part of the employer, giving out detailed work to the others in the class who are under our direction for the time being. In short, we learn how to be an efficient secretary and to develop in ourselves those personal qualities so important to success in life. The second period is transcription time and then we spend many enjoyable monlents. Looking at our shorthand notes, staring at them, wondering what we wrote is a wonderful pastime. But we manage to recall their meaning and all goes well. When this is done, we race through a speed test, trying to make 50-60-70 or 80 words a minute. When one succeeds with accuracy, her success is shared with all of us, for it is very encouraging. When the bell rings once again,we are seen leaving our favorite corner, with a smile on our lips and a song in our hearts. Jeannette Guilmette '48 'Colette Saucier '48
