QB1essed Julie Billiartj As we stroll through the spacious grounds or study in the library at Notre Dame, Belmont, the motto of Blessed Julie Billiart comes to mind: 0h! how good is the good God. How good indeed, is Cod to have given us Blessed Mere Julie. Unless Blessed Julie had had the faith and fortitude to found the order of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, we would never have had the opportunity of being taught by these Sisters. It seems that with this thought in mind, Oh! how good is the good Godlv, Blessed Julie Billiart went through life doing much to enrich the Catholic Faith. She must have had a great abundance of God's grace and love to be the foundress of a re- ligious order. The Sisters of Notre Dame came to America as teachers, their mission was to form minds g but through the years these Sisters have done more than mould our minds g they have influenced us in soul, mind and body by their toil. Thus, with these few inadequate words we dedicate the following pages of our yearbook to one of God's most gracious foundresses, our beloved patroness, Blessed Julie Billiart.

BELMONT, CALIFORNIA Acting as pioneers in preparing Notre Dame's first edition of the year- book, we sincerely hope you will derive a few moments of pleasure and re- call a nostalgic memory or two of your own. ln the following pages we wish to present some candid views of students in the various phases of their life at N. D. B. We hope to illustrate in these pages their academic and extracurricular pursuits. We trust this first edition of the Torch will find its place beside the many other traditions which we have enjoyed and ad- mired during our four years here. We believe that by the labor, coopera- tion, and integrity of the students and through the careful guidance of our faculty advisors, new ideas will be brought forth to better and preserve this impressive record of student life.
