Miss De La Cruz finds her teaching gratifying and her students enjoyable even though there's a different kind of student here than there was when she attended N.D. from 1973-1977. Much has chang- ed since those days she says, there was more discipline and the dress code was enforced more even though we had uniforms. She also thinks the students speak out more and aren't so content to accept s iii what they're told. The students challenge what they're told now, she said. The things she likes best about N.D. are the friendships that grew out of her four years here and the good education she received. Believe it or not some of the teachers that taught Miss De La Cruz are still here! They are Mrs. Benchoff who taught her Spanish and Mr. Heding who taught her Ms. Nanette De La Cruz BA University California Riverside ASB Moderator Spanish I, Il RQ S History of the Media and History of the West. After graduation she kept busy by attending U.C.R., where she received her BA in Liberal Studies. She financed her studies by working at J.C. Penney in the Men's Depart- ment, for four years. When ask- ed what hobbies she had Miss De La Cruz exclaimed, I LOVE RACQUETBALL! Traveling and photography are also favorites. As for returning to N.D. she never planned on it. Getting a job as an elementary teacher was what she had in mind till Mrs. Benchoff and Mr. Heding convinced her otherwise. I met up with Mr. Heding and Mrs. Benchoff and they sug- gested that I apply at Notre Dame, she explained. Landing the job came as a complete shock for our alumni Spanish teacher. Miss Dolan came as a stu- dent in her sophomore year and graduated Cum-Laude in 1976. She feels Notre Dame hasn't really changed that much since her student days, but notes the level of spirit was higher then and that students attitudes were a great deal different. During her years as a stu- dent, Miss Dolan remembers studying under Mr. Bellah, Mrs. Tenney and Mr. Heding. They are now all co-workers along with former fellow students, Mr. Wuetcher, Miss Schulte, Miss de la Cruz and her best and closest friend, Mrs. Favela. Speaking with Mrs. Favela and asking about Miss Dolan led to one word repeated many times describing her as a fellow stu- dent, noisy, noisy, noisy! That isn't all though, her nickname according to Mrs. Favela is Miss Cheerfull and everybody's friend. Outside of being everybody' friend, Miss Dolan kept busy with maintaining an above average grade point average and being on the student council. She was very involved in drama, one of her favorite classes. She was president of the drama club and in 1975 appeared in the school musical, The Un- sinkable Molly Brown.
