Father Walter Wilczek Coming to us from Chicago, ll- linois, his home state, with a great deal of enthusiasm, Father Wally brought change and new goals to Notre Dame. As our principal, Father Wally set goals which he felt would improve the educational ex- perience here at Notre Dame and with much spirit and optimism, set out to achieve them. After answering a search by Sister Ann Muckerman, the Superinten- dent of Schools for the Diocese of San Bernardino, Father Wally came 86 Faculty to Notre Dame as our principal. Originally, Father Wally had planned to take some time to study for spiritual renewal. However, when Sister Ann Muckerman asked him to seriously consider taking the job, Father Wally felt a responsibility in the calling, and was pleased to be called to serve the Church at Notre Dame High School. Upon arriving at Notre Dame, Father Wally was a bit disappointed with the appearance of the school. Father Wally felt that the way a school looks is an indication of the amount of respect the students have for each other. However, after meeting the faculty which gave him tremendous support and talking to students who projected con- fidence in themselves and their goals, Father Wally felt the school had great potential. He then went on to say, the students deserve-a school which projects a positive at- titude, and that an atmosphere where everyone on campus is im- portant and deserves to be treated with dignity as the Lord's children, should be created. With this in mind Father Wally began to apply the wisdom of previous ac- complishments to his new calling. Having been involved in education throughout his career, Father Wally served in many important positions. He served as a teacher, drama moderator, Athletic Director and President of the Chicago Catholic Athletic League while working at his Alma Mater high school Weber, and at Gordan Tech. Also in Chicago, he served as a teacher, Chairman of the Guidance Department, Assistant Principal and Principal. Another key job Father Wally held for seven years before coming to Notre Dame, was the position of Superintendent of Catholic High Schools for the Ar- chdiocese. These jobs and many other education related jobs helped make Father Wally a very compe- tent and appropriate Principal of Notre Dame. After working with many high school students, Father Wally has come to understand much about the adolescent years. He feels adolescent years are years of uncertainty, peer pressure, and a value system which is in a turmoil, and that here at Notre Dame an anchor of sanity and structure should be provided. Father Wally ad- ded, nothing can happen without Christ, and that by giving ourselves to the Lord, we can bring about fulfillment and success. Taking all aspects into considera- tion, Father Wally, as Principal of Notre Dame, had one basic message for the faculty, staff and students. ln the same spirit of openness and generosity with which we would turn to other things, we need to turn to the Lord.

To break down the wall of secrecy, the faculty sec- tion features some of the teachers who have been through what we've been through. These lucky few at- tended Notre Dame as high school students.
