As the years go by, one class after another graduates from Notre Dame and each leaves with their own identi- ty. They leave with the thoughts of what made their par- ticular class unique. The class of 1983 is not special in size or number, but it is special in that they are the last class to have experienced formal initiation on Notre Dame's campus. The week of initiation back in '79 was dubbed nerd week , a memorable week that some choose to forget. Since that time Kangaroo Court and all of its formalities have faded out of sight. School and Diocesan rules no longer permit on campus initiation such as Kangaroo Court, but every freshman to pass through high school never forgets that first year whether initiated or not. We can look back and remember the trials for being accepted andlaugh, but then quickly come back to reality and remember that for every peak we reach there is a mountain to climb for it, and that it won't be long until we must begin again at the bottom for our longest journey to come - the one leading us beyond N.D. and into the future. Each day is filled with problems and joys for all of us to endure, but maybe with the good times to remember from our years in high school, we can learn to take every day for what it is. We'll say goodbye to you, class of '83, and farewell to a tradi- tion that leaves with you. Seniors 97
