A215 QQ the american association of teachers of spanish, portuguese and the national spanish honor society granted in 1974, a charter to establish a new chapter of the spanish honor society to notre dame, known as chapter juan ruiz de alarcon, a prominent spanish literary writer, the honor society of notre dame is under the direction of mrs. carmen benchoff. the only prerequisite to membership is a grade average of b or above in spanish. although the shs is just planting its roots, its members hope to engage in worthwhile extra- curricular activities in the future. ' ' . . in the midst of sports and intramurals, the chess club banded together at mid-year to encourage a more intellectual sport. with the help of faculty-moderator mr. lyle porter, the chess club was able to meet at lunch to provide time for games. throughout the semester, membership increased including observers as well as players. the members started with a very basic knowledge of chess and worked toward improvement, as well as enjoyment. chess became not only a battle of concentration, but a sharing of technique and strategy. the chess club succeeded and will no doubt be continued next year. chess club members are: jim demarco, pat cheney, tim cheney, jennifer stafford, ted hewitt, marion deruyter, cindy marks, joanne hornsby and walter hackett. 83

we did it the titan '75 staff, led by co-editors tina Ldzik and rose sammut, overcame numerous roblems and began production of the year- mok. the three photogrpahers sean brady, :land tcheng, and laura richardson, were apt busy with the assignments which rhonda lrney scheduled. the layout staff, composed T lynn maxwell, jay krueger, and carmela inderman, worked after school graphing out ages. copy assignments were handed out 1 the copy editor, bredna rafter, and with the elp of annette de ruyter as the typist. the rt work was taken care of by two very talent- 1 juniors, laura richardson and theresa gaylord. iylord. without the help mr. plutko 1d miss vagnozzi there wouldn't be a year- Jok. though funds were short and deadlines ere missed, their patience helped us through le hard times.
