tltan teachers sold notre dame encountered again an extremely hilarious and peculiar event known to all as slave day. the junior class, along with the ex- pertise of auctioneer pat fahey, staged the sale of the majority of the faculty into bondage. on march seventh, the slaves performed fairly well in their student-chosen gay apparel. for coaches, it was to show off various athletic talents such as running hurdles and wrestling, the sophisticated of the faculty displayed the techniques of modern dance and the three- point-stance. even fr. mendonca participated in the ltmacy. slave day was a success: the juniors raised a nice sum of money toward the prom, the stu- dents enjoyed the satisfaction of getting even,' and the faculty, though humiliated, realized it was all in fun? 38 26 38n 0 0 o o

above: nd students enjoy the specially decor- ated birthday cakes. right: james mc carthy and damien meins take the celebration seriously. happy birthday n.d.! sr. eileen demonstrates the correct way to eat cake. 9 it's a birthday party! everyone is invited! notre dame's 19th birthday, on wednesday, february 5, was all part of the festivities for catholic schools' week, set for february 3-7 throughout the diocese of san diego. and notre dame had a lot to celebrate! on february 4, an open house was scheduled. the campus was open for parents and others to browse around, meet the people and visit classes. february 5 was party time! for this special occasion, a cake-baking contest was held. after the judging, cake slices were sold, party hats passed out and all sung happy birthday to the school. february 6 was set aside as parish day. the parish priests of all thc students were invited to share a con- celebrated mass with the student body. following the mass, each priest met with students from his parish for lunch. it was a great birthday and everyone had enjoyed it. by the way, everyone is invited to notre dame's next birthday party. remember, you're not getting older, notre dame, you're getting better!
