However, this year we are deviating from this practice by dedicating the Stella Maris'' in memoriam to Raymond F. Meuse of the Class of 1964. Ray wasn't a saint or a hero and he never made a resounding impression on the world, but we feelthat he completely embodied every characteristic and idealthat a Catholic youth should possess, Today, we dedicatethis book to Ray in the hope that when we leave Notre Dame we, too, will remember what we have been taught here and will be able to live it each day of our lives. “Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new genera- tion of Americans — born in this century, tem- pered by war, disci- plined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage.” a _ = re IA ssa REV. ROBERT MAILLOUX, S.M. PASTOR We, the class of 1967, wish to ex- press our sincere appreciation to our pastor, Rev. Robert Mailloux, S.M., for all he has done for us. Retreat | 55 This year we took three days from our curriculum to pause and reflect about ourselves and our world. Through the guidance and instruction of our retreat masters, Father Kenniston and Father Higgins, we deepened our understanding of our Christian commit- ment, Although we have done this every year, this year's retreat was more meaning- ful to us. At the conclusion of our retreat, we resolved to renew ourselves with in- creased devotion to the ideals of not only our Cath- olic faith butalso those of the New Frontier. So let us begin anew-- remembering on both sides that civility is nota sign of weakness, and sincerity is always subject to proof, ' Stella Maris Statf Being our business man- Our editor-in- Chietye Nall wee 1 Sod ey. However, they are only seemingly finished. The lessons and ideals which we learned from them both willbe carried with us throughout our lives, So today, we leave Notre Dame; we take with us not sentimentality and worthless recollections, but the spirit we have derived from the UNew Erontier. The: ‘spirit and courage to makethe world a better place in which a man can serve his God,his fellow- men, and himself, Every generation of Americans has faced a dif- ferent set of problems in carrying forward the abiding purposes of our society. The problems have changed, the purposes have remained constant, ' Athletics Physical strength, courage, determination, and compe- tition have always been the cornerstones of our American WayeOlliteg Outeatileticupro- gram has prepared us for our role in the New Frontier by instilling in usthe qualities of the pioneers of old. We, too, are idealists. We would not have it said of our generation that we left ideals and visions to the past, nor purpose and determination to our adver- Saries. The spirit of rivalry and competition, the joys of victory, and the sadness of defeatshhave tempered and equipped us for our role in life ahead. “We do not want in the United States a nation of spectators. Look over your employer as carefully as he does you What’s the Company like anyway? Would I be proud to work there? Reputation for square dealing with employees? Pleasant surroundings? Will I be working with others my own age? Are they friendly? Do they socialize after hours? Will the boss be reasonable? Appreciate good, hard work, but won’t explode if I make a mistake? Will I make a decent week’s pay? Have a chance for raises, advancement, more responsibility? How about fringe benefits? Is the work challenging? I had what it takes to get through high school.
