The word FRESHMEN stood out on us like a sore thumb. We felt awkward and ill at ease, and to make up for it, started acting foolishly, as do all freshmen. The seniors soon welcomed us, however, and we felt better. But we leamed all too soon that we were not accepted - that is, not until we underwent the torments of the INITIATION, The torments proved to be riots of fun, though, and we all went home weak from nothing but laughter! The passing Autumn months brought about the beginning of our school dances. With the music provided by the famed University Trio, this affair soon proved to be a general favorite. The spirit of Christmas soon pervaded the corridors of N.D.P., and Christmas parties were planned with the greatest of care. With Santa himself distributing the gifts, the holidays got off to a merry start. ' January and February saw us busy with two big events. We became quite businesslike and sponsored a very successful dance for the benefit of the Annual Whist, and we also went in- to the entertainment field, singing Les Rameaux.” Fora while our hats wouldn't fit, but then the novelty of our fame wore off, and we soon went back to our lowly stations! Then, we were indeed honored with a visit from Reverend Mother Marie Suzanne, Pro- vincial Superior of our good and devoted Sisters. At first we were a bit awed by her presence, but her kindness soon put us at ease, and her visit will always linger pleasantly in our memories. The lazy spirit of Spring took hold of us at this time, and for a while not much was accomplished. In the beautiful month of May the enrollment of the Children of Mary took place, and we all participated in the ceremony, proud indeed to be known as Mary's child. The long-anticipated Glee Club Picnic was finally arranged, and we all came back from Canobie Lake tired and sunburnt, but happy as children. June and the wonderful thought of vacation soon came upon us. We eagerly closed our books, looked forward to a beautiful summer, and the eminent title of Sophisticated Sophs. Jeannette Cajolet 47 Chapter I BASIC TRAINING After enjoying a blissful vacation, we were back to school sporting a lovely tan, a new title, and a disdainful attitude towards the silly little freshmen. Being much more matured and serious than last year, we set out to become real scholars. As we tackled problems in Geometry, and translations in Latin, we wondered if High School was all it was cracked up to be. Still, we loved every minute of it. The Herald Spelling Bee soon came up, and though our best speller tried her utmost, the Silver Cup just wasn't for us. April came around and we were simply petrified! Tense whispers from upperclassmen about the dreaded C.U. exams and us wondering whether or not we would allremain as sopho- mores for the rest of the year, But, as it was only naturalfrom so brilliant a class, we all passed with flying colors! . June was here at last! We had successfully struggled through our year as sophomores, and had come to the end of the road, But then, looking back, it wasn't so bad after all; in fact, it was kind of fun. Afterflying around wishing luck to the graduates, we departed for a three month “parole , anticipating our junior year, and visioning ourselves as “big wheels in Our Lady of Pity! Laureat Lemieux Chapter III TOP SERGEANTS Retuming to school as confident, assured juniors, we haughtily surveyed the crop!!! Of course, the freshmen, as always, were trying not to show their newness, making it stand out all the more! Naturally, they were initiated, and much to their surprise, no one was murdered! October always sees us back to work; for somehow, no one ever realizes it's school until October. We all settled down to hard work, for this month saw the installation of a new system. Each Monday, Fr. Chabot, our devoted School Director, read out our marks for the preceding week and gave us a little pep talk. We were all in favor of this, for thus we could easily keep a close check on our progress. Christmas came as usual, and went out amidst a flurry of gifts. A jolly Santa Claus pre- sided at the Christmas Party, and the memory of it will always bring a chuckle to our class, This year, our plans for the whist began to take on added importance. The juniors put on a. very successful, if somewhat amateurish, minstrel show. However, everyone enjoyed our performance and we all had a great deal of fun. As Spring progressed, so did the plans for the Junior-Senior Prom. Much discussion was held as to where we would dine afterwards. The Vienna Room was finally chosen, and a perfe ct evening went on record as the best prom ever! Next we were very busy preparing Class Day for our Graduates. Some of us actually shed a few tears as we then realized that we were losing wonderful pals. Graduation night finally arrived, and our radiant seniors received their diplomas, with us juniors proudly looking on and thinking of our own graduation. With this thought in mind, we took our exit for a much needed furlough... Gloria Cossette 48 Chapter iv COMMISSIONED OFFICERS The title of Dignified Seniors as officially endowed upon us this seventh day of Septem- ber, nineteen-hundred and fifty. We were introduced to a full curriculum of activities, the first being the Initiation, Remembering our fate as freshmen, we could satisfy our tormented minds with “sweet revenge. Each senior selected two of the condemned for individual torture, and on the appointed day, a hilarious display of what mustbe called freaks appeared at N.D.P. But they retumed home much to their surprise, weary from fun and laughter. Next on our social agenda was our trip to Salem to see the House of the Seven Gables. Beautiful weather mingled with the delightful scenes provided a background for many of the- photos of our Yearbook. Our Year Book Staff was selected and everyone got busy planning a schedule of parties, whists, penny sales, and various schemes to arouse a spirit of generosity in those whom we hop- ed would contribute to such a worthy cause. These days will no doubt be known as The good old lollypop days. The sound of Oh's and Ah's from the hall revealed that the Reverend Fathers, Mother Superior, our teachers, and classmates have all accepted our invitation to the Christrnas Party. Santa Claus, Ruth Hudson, presented each one with a gift. Father Demers gave us our most an- ticipated and useful gift, our Christmas Vacation} The New Year--These three words summarized a period of celebration and resolution 3 We discarded the fun that this season brings and donned a business attitude towards all our activi- ties, for we had not forgotten that only hard work would bring us to our goal. .graduation. Dur- ing the next few months, therefore, we followed a smooth pattern of schoolwork. When Spring came around all spare moments were reserved in the discussion of the Senjor-Junior Prom. Our efforts were greatly rewarded when, on the fateful night, we all ap- peared decked like so many celebrities. June marked the end of our days atN.D.P. All the senior celebrities were seen running around giving their autographs to underclassmen, and weeping a little, wondering if they would ever live through the practices, let alone the actual ceremony. No catastrophe occurred, how- ever, and the affair went off beautifully. We accepted our diplomas with a mixture of glad- ness and sadness. We are proud and glad to have attained our goal, but nothing can ever excel the happy days spenthere at N.D.P. So we bid adieu to our Alma Mater, leaving no golden advice to the coming seniors, except these few words. May you gain all the blessings and all the knowledge of your faith that we acquired during our happy years at N.D.P.
