They have instilled into our hearts the principles of all that is noble and good and true. With their timely advice we have come to a deeper realization of the meaning of life, how to live it fully, and how to live it well. Flashing through our minds were the few remarks we had heard from the upper olassmen, Wait till we get those Freshmen; we'll take care of them Any minute we expected hordes of Seniors to swoop down upon us, but nothing hap- pened! The first month was wonderful; all enjoyed the brevity of the classes and the changing around. OCTOBER - Without warning it oame - THE INITIATION Β§ $ Β§ Well-mannered, dignified Seniors turned out to be plotting and fiendish planners. For a whole week we bowed and salaamed to the Seniors. Then, on Friday, in we oame with haggard and haunted looks, for each of us had to oarry our books in pails. We were ushered into the hall for the exeoution. After many elaborate gestures we were told what we were expected to do in order to be worthy of the title FRESHMEN. We were then tendered a party by the upper olassmen, and a good time was had by all. DECEMBER - The months seemed to be flying by. Christmas was already here! Each home- room had a Christmas Party of its own. We weloomed the vacation for we all felt the need of a rest. JANUARY - All were now hard at work selling tiokets for the High School Whist. Each year competed to see who could sell most tiokets. Everyone did so well that, as a reward, the whole sohool got a day off. MARCH - Oh, the miseries of Latin, Science, and Algebra { { ! Grammar School was never like this! MAY - All the girls of our olass were enrolled in the Sodality of the Children @ Mary. Reverend Father Chabot, our spiritual director, gave us our blue ribbons and certificates. The ceremony was most impressive and will linger in our memories for many years to come. JUNE At last the Glee Club Pionio { { ! We chartered a bus and off we went to Norumbega Park. Forgotten were the cares and worries of the year. Eagerly we looked forward to vacation and to the following year when we would be β€œSophisti- coated Sophs.” SOPHOMORE YEAR SEPTEMBER - Having happily survived our diffioult and memorable Freshman Year, baok we went to N. D. P. H. Hints were dropped to the Freshmen concerning their initia- tion, the new subjects, eto, We felt quite important and proudly sported our new title, SOPHISTICATED SOPHS. OCTOBER = This month saw the beginning of a oourse in Calisthenics. Most of us didn't even know the meaning of the word. We were astounded to find that it was just plain GYM. This year was different because we did not have an initiation; in- stead we had a Hallowe'en Party for the Freshmen. NOVEMBER = The Catholic Action Movement was introduced in N.D.P.H. This organization was greeted with moh enthusiasm on the part of both teachers and students. i he Gr ey chert ahh Gye Oh Wey An SAY Slt a ay a Rie x Bish Poy ie a dni et ee NH his ; The ais EIN β€˜ TH BN an ant { With 4 iM: yy. a MeL v MNS sia } x rile , } i) Ve j Β’ ! D. P. H. were the soene of bustling activity and prep- aration for the Christmas holidays. We thoroughly enjoyed the Christmas Parties held in each homeroom, JANUARY - In this oold and blustery month was presented our first Minstrel Show, in whioh the entire Sophomore Class took part. Our efforts were well rewarded with a day off. Hurraht FEBRUARY - The next surprise came when Rita Doucet, a Junior, won the Boston Herald Spelling Bee Cup. She was presented the award by Reverend Father Sherlock, Superintendent of Schools in the Archdiocese of Boston. WN. D. P. H. was indeed proud of its Spelling Champ}{ MARCH Spring and beautiful weather were not near at hand. We had plenty of worries though. The Classical group was seen going around glassy-eyed trying to figure out the mysteries of isosceles and soalene triangles;while the Commercial students were endeavoring to decipher the hieroglyphios of Stenography. APRIL - Great preparations were made for the expected visit of Very Reverend Mother Marie Therese, Superior General of the Sisters of the Holy Union of the Sacred Hearts. How bitterly disappointed we were on our return from the Easter holidays when we were told that Very Reverend Mother could not honor us with her visit, due to dome unforeseen ciroumstances. JUNE At last the dreaded Catholio University Exams | However, as bad as they were, there were no casualities. And now we eagerly awaited our Junior Year. JUNIOR YEAR SEPTEMBER - Once more the corridors of N. D. P. H. echo with the sound of footsteps as eager students hurry to make the last bell. Again we see timid (7) little Fresh- men peer around the corner, walk slowly up the stairs, and cautiously enter the building. We oan't imagine why they should be frightened so} OCTOBER - Did you hear any blood-ourdling screams as you passed by Room 14? Don't worry - it's just our Junior Biologists exhibiting their specimens to our frail Commercial students. Any one with spare time, please register, and become one of the band of fearless grasshopper hunters who brave the wilds of the empty lot on Sargent Street to hunt specimens. NOVEMBER - This month marks the beginning of Teen-Age Dances at N. D. P. H. These dances will be held twioe a month under the capable direotion of Reverend Father Brunelle and the auspices of the Men's Club. DECEMBER = Our homeroom is a-flutter with plans for the Prom, the Minstrel Show, and other activities. Our Christmas Party was held in spite of the inolement weather and enjoyed by everyone. Time off for a well-deserved rest. FEBRUARY - N.D.P.H. is in an uproar! Once again oomes the High School Whist. The Juniors presented their second Minstrel] Show which, we are proud to say, was a huge success. A radio performance was given by the Glee Club. Our golden- throated choristers sang Les Rameaux on The Student Hour Program. β€˜ β€˜ F] L I . f SHY Ge A ij PEAT A Piet tate eee RAR MAT 'Y Rood hy Lt ae US Pada ey, Gaek Tie oe WY Na Pepe re RP OAS ie RY: cha Matic th: ei hh toes Ak eee oe al ae ; i : : ya PL beh RT Lek i ; ’ AOD OLE) RS Oe y fears LSS pre fi pT es SINEAD HL Ts NSN ae Leon ete Β’) Als + a 2 . iva w . : Lie β€˜ - i AZ 1 aot β€˜ β€˜ β€˜ U i 4 : oi woe ' 7 ' β€˜ h } Lae BA Py) a iy ke i : ’ Β₯ 2 a ' y : ( ) β€˜ Peay a OL . β€” e a i Re β€˜ a β€˜cy β€˜ ; , β€˜ a, AY ? 4 w β€˜ ah Set) | 5, ol Sia . Voila ce que le mot β€œAurevoirβ„’ veut dire pour la CLASSE 1949. Pour d'autres ce mot peut exprimer autre chose, mais pour nous β€œAurevoir . veut simplement dire REGRET et RECONNAISSANCE. Quick as a flash, we find ourselves in the land of the future. Landing at the famous Sky-Way Airport, designed by the world-renowned architeot, Roger Theriault, we are assisted from the plane by the hostess, Clare Beauchemin. Upon hailing a taxi, we notice the driver to be none other than Claire Chevarie. We are then taken on a sight-seeing tour by the Guide, Cecilia Burke. We stop in at Beatrice Cartier's Book Emporium, and notice that George Dodge's latest book, β€œHow to Smoke a Pipe in Ten Easy Lessons has finally been published. Having a few hours to spare, we go to the Madison Square Garden where Benoit (Killer) Girard is staging an exhi bition bout with Joe Louis. Then we con- tinue our round-the-world journey. Our first stop is Paris where we proceed to the Louvre to see Master LaRoche's exhibition of his famous portraits. We then fly to Italy where Rita Melanson is making her debut at the Opera House. After the performance Marie Aucoin takes us to her Spaghetti House where we are served a delicious meal by the head waitress, Franoes Arseneault. Our next visit is Africa where Carol Boudreau, Head Nurse, assists Father Gallant in his missionary work among cannibals. From there we pro- ceed to Russia, where we attend the Ballet Russe and see the Prima Ballerina, Lor- raine Bouthillier, give a magnificent performance. On our way home we stop at Mexico to watch the famous Senorita Breton dancing to the msic of Bernadette Doiron's Hot Tamales.” We then pay a short visit to our old friends Lorraine Cajolet and Lorraine Rochon from whom we obtain direot- ions for our homeward trip. Returning to California, we take a swimin the mink-lined swimming pool of that great comedienne, Florence Racioot. Feeling very much refreshed, we em bark for the last part of our trip. Once again in Boston we are greeted by Jeannette Hachez who informs us that Lucille St. Martin has been serious ly injured while playing football, but is now being treated by Marie Chiasson, head surgeon at Carney Hospital. Coming into port in Cambridge, we see the well-known photographer, Juliano Melanson, sitting on the pier, still waiting for that Slow Boat to China. ? . .
