SA ROUTE SA ROUTE SA ROUTE A SA ROUTE SA ROUTE SA ROUTE SA ROUTE OF 1958 DEDICATION T0 0 R LADY OF LOURDES During 1958, the Centennial Year of the apparitions of Our Lady of Lourdes, thousands of Catholics throughout the world will commemorate her anniver- sary. Here at Notre Dame--a school dedicated to Our Lady-- we are preparing our first year- book. As a part of our tribute to Our Lady, and to assure the success of our work, we humbly dedicate this book to her. We, therefore, proceed in our under- taking with the simple confi- dence that her never-faltering hand will guide us, and with the hope that we may capture and reveal in the following pages something of the spirit of Notre Da me. Having thus entrusted this first annual to the care of Our Lady of Lourdes, we ask her to accept it and to christen it Sa Route that such a title may symbolize and embody the ideal of Notre Da me education- -train- ing in Her Way. First, class officers were elect- ed: Mary Ann lmwalle, Linda Lu- chetti, Jeanne McGann, PamSulli- van and Terrie Giluso, The Juniors then initiated them to the tune of Sharps Meet Flats. Enriched by working on the Christmas baskets for the poor, a dash of flavor was added with the introduction of the Spook House at the annual Car- nival. After bubbling vigorously through the Freshman picnic atSea- cliff, the program welcoming eigh- th-graders as in-coming freshmen, and decorating for the Senior Grad- uation exercises at the end of the year, they were taken off the fire and allowed to settle before fall. Lol The Freshies became Sophomores and upon their return to Notre Da me in 1955, they were com- pletely immersed in school activi- ties. Kathy O'Toole, Diana Souza, Mary Jo Avilla, Lorraine Peltier, Gaylene Bonebra ke, Fleur Kettmann, were given them as officers. They were an ever-willing class when it ca me to helping with school activ- ities. The class of '58 was matured greatly by the responsibility of cleaning up after school dances and further developed by . filling more baskets for the poor, contributing to more charitable works. A dash of work and fun was added with the Chocolate Bar Drive to aid the build- ing fund, and another dash offlavor with the Soph Hop, Swingin' on a Star. All of these activities were undertaken under the direction of Sister Theresa St. Francis. Realiza- tion that the year had ended all too soon came with the Sophomore- Senior Brunch. By September of 1956, they had become upper classmen under Sister Agnes Cecilia's guidance. They chose as their Junior Class officers: Terry Tiernan, Dottie Fontana , Anna Selva , Terrie Giluso, Gloria Cesena , and Jo Kleemann. The long awaited Freshman Initiation ga ve the m a chance to revel in doings Out of This World. Once again caught up in school activity, they decorated the Hallowe'en Dance, carrying out the theme Harvest Moon. The Christmas Dance as well as the first annual Cotton Ball were made more enjoyable by the refreshments sup- plied by this class. Plans in the lat- ter part of the year revolved around the Junior Prom, Heaven On Earth, of which the Queen was Helen Raymo. After a final sifting, the responsibility of student-body government was taken on by: Fleur Kettmann, President, Maryann Im- walle, Vice-Presidentp Kathy O'- Toole, Parliamentariang and Helen Raymo, Athletic Manager. Seniors they were in 1957 and they proved it by pitching in with a will to initiate a new form of '45 student government--Senior Con- trol, under the guidance of Sister Margaret Dolores, and with Kathy O'Toole as student leader. Class officers were: Terrie Giluso, Linda Lucchetti, Dottie Fontana, Joan Sa- bol, Mary Letha Zets. and Sue Sleek. They provided refreshments forthe Hallowe'en Dance and decor- ated the Christmas Dance to open a bright new year. Among other activ- ities, on the annual Senior trip to Sacramento, they proved them- selves shining examples of all for which Notre Dame stands: Citizen- ship, Courtesy, and Culture. The Seniors, then almost grad- uates, began activities of farewell with the Junior-Senior picnic in San Francisco, then the long-awaited Senior Ball. But, the girls paused in their fun to recall all for which they had to be thankful on their Day of Recollection. Again, in quick suc- cession came finals, the Baccalau- reate Mass, and the Sophomore- Senior Brunch. Class Day dawned with Kathy O'Toole as Valedictorian and Terry Tiernan as sa lutatorian. On June the seventh, the Class of '58 graduated from St. Joseph's Church. The finished product: a group of Mary-like women, citizens, homemakers of tomorrow who realized that High School days are too short. Yet, memories are made of such as this!
