As sophisticated Sophomores, we met two people who made quite an impression upon us. Our class teacher, Sister Mary, greeted us with a smile, but of course we were warned not to set one foot in the class room via the fire-escape on a rainy day. Imagine what would happen to the floor! We were told that we would soon meet our new principal, Sister Francis Loretto, and we looked forward to our first assembly with many whispered predictions. Sister im- pressed us with that first forceful address and we were delighted with her interest in the smallest of our activities The spirit of every class Jumped by leaps and bounds when Sister introduced the pennant system and Maria Meza who had succeded Rosa NANCY LEARNED Slender Senonta 1' 1 EDNA MARTINIEZ Q SQ 'al L es CAROL JULIN CAROL KALINE American Observer Sincerely Yours 'wgqlrv YN 4' x 45 DOROTHY LINANE Dom Jackie Naive Ballerina Painted Doll 1 EVANGELINE MARTINEZ CATHLEEIN MCCLAUGHLIN MARIA MEZA Eddie Vangie Cathy Haunted and Hungry Sffllllng Samarltan Timid and Tiny Radical Republican hav 5? fi ., -x C' 4- - 1. As grown-up young ladies, we attended our first school dance, Autumn Nocturne , and then, in January, we joined the rest of the student body in Oriental Gardens . During this year we came under the direction of three other members of the faculty: Sister Marie Celine who threatened us with the dissection of a frog in her Biology classg Miss Doherty who coached our teams in their C. Y. O. strugglesg and Mrs. Shanahan who encouraged us to see the latest release of Julius Caesar, even though we understood Shakespeare thoroughly! The following Mon- day, spring fever set in. Who could concentrate on verbs and pronouns in English 11, while warm sunshine and an inviting lawn beckoned? Just in time, the Stu- dent Body Picnic rolled around. The Sophomores at- tended the picnic one-hundred percent. The weather was beautiful, but we were disappointed--no wild flowers. Quickly, the end of the year came. We planned a warm send-off for the Seniors. This was the Sen- ior-Sophornore Breakfast. All the committees worked furiously to make the day a hugh success. Pink and white was the color theme, and every Soph gave a Sen- ior a corsage. This has been a hectic year for us. The Soph- omore year is traditionally a period of growing up. We want to thank Sister Victoire Julie, and everyone who has had to endure our growing pains. T. Martinez K. Meyers . Murga M. Novak N. Rolland O. Saiz . Sanchez B. Schurr J, patch I . Storm H. Aided by their Moderator, Sister Frances, they did the little things which actually mean a great deal. The Rosary was said in the chapel every lunch-hour, and gradually the Legionaires were joined by many other students. Some of the club members taught catechism weekly while others did volunteer work at various hospitals. A collection of dishware was taken up throughout the whole school for the benefit of St. Anthony's Dining Room, and at Easter the patients of Mary's Help Hospital were given statuettes and bouquets of flowers to brighten up their holiday. During the month of May, the girls took on the re- sponsibility of seeing that a May altar was erected in every room, The Legion of Mary also tried to bring Mary and her Son closer to the hearts of others and they sure- ly did not fail in their efforts to do so. .
