BA TA VIA, NEW YORK W WML zfijwflfff DQ f'fiMZfL2j7f37 WW? presents MA TER DEI 1963 C iim ttfif MW Dedication We admire Pope John's courageous efforts to effect the ideals of union in God given to us through Christ, our Lord. By calling the Second Vatican Council, our humble Pope has already helped to produce abundant fruit, and has made the future ripe for a still greater growth toward unity. We are grateful for the unity of our Church, and of our families, and for the unified spirit among our fac- ulty. We hope to find union in God now and always by living fruitfully in the family that is Christ. To the man who is bringing us closer to a realization of that union, to Po John XXIII Pontiff of Unity, we proudly and gratef liy dedi ate our MATER DEI 1963. if 3951? Burke, D.D., spent ten years tirelessly and unselfishly administering to the needs of the people of the diocese of Buffalo. How fitting it was for Bishop Burke to be called to his eternal reward while serving his ,people at the Vatican Council in Rome, the eternal city. The news of his death reached his flock on October 16, 1962. The loss of Bishop Burke was mourned deeply by us students at Notre Dame, for it was 'during his bishopric and because of his interest in Catholic education that Notre Dame was built. May our school itself and the knowledge we gain here always stand in his loving memory. 4 r may Some he has appointed to be apostles, others to be prophets, others to be evangelists, or pastors, or teachers. They are to order the lives of the faithful, minister to their needs, build up the frame of Christ's body, until we all realize our common unity through faith in the Son of God. So we shall reach perfect manhood, that maturity which is proportioned to the completed growth of Christ. fEphesians IV, 11-131 my my vb WW ,MW Q fylxxsfy W Q5 jjfwmwgbgy A Qfwfiii AW, Mix XNXX Skill Fr JR K S M 2225 MOST REVEREND LEO R. KOLB As Principal of Notre Dame, Father Kolb has been entrusted with endless duties, and a monumental task. He has met the challenge, and in so doing, has aided in the growth and development of our school. Notre Dame's traditions of a familial spirit among the faculty, a happy student-faculty relationship, and a uni- iied school spirit have been fostered dur- ing his tenure. Father Kolb metes out jus- tice with charity, and it is perhaps for this quality that he is most loved. He listens patiently to our problems, and usually helps us to find the right solutions. His efforts to give us every opportunity to reach scholastic success, and to gain spir- itual union with God are tireless. For all this, Father Kolb has earned our respect, and we are truly grateful. Seniors Notre Dame is so much a part of us now, that it is difficult for us to remember that we once felt new and strange here. But not so long ago, four years to be exact, we were newcomers. That freshman year was filled with firsts -attending our first retreat, sponsoring our tirst dance, participating in our first athletic events, and perhaps realizing for the first time the necessity of hard work for scholastic success. Each year, we sponsored more and more projects, and became a more significant part of our school. Each year, members of our class participated in more activitiesg our school became a more vital part of us. We look back gratefully to all that Notre Dame has taught us, knowing that graduation will not separate that union which the Class of '63 and our Alma Mater have achieved. of the Pictured left to right are Row 1: B.
