JOHN FRANCIS CARDINAL O'HARA, CSC Notre Dameis Class of 1961 is proud to dedicate Mater Dei, to John Francis Cardinal O'Hara, CSC. We are proud to have the opportunity to show our gratitude to this great servant of God. Cardinal O'Hara was a man who devoted his life to bringing the word of God to his fellow man. He realized that if people wish to make progress toward heavenly goals, toward God, they will need all of the guidance they can obtain. People can help themselves in a measure proportionate to their education. In his realization of this, Cardinal O'Hara sought to find ways to make available the best type of schools in his diocese. Therefore he approved and directed the building of many Catholic high schools in the Buffalo region. Catholic education was and is his answer in helping us get to heaven. Notre Dame in Batavia was among the new schools that were built. It was ded- icated to the Mother of God in 1952. Since that time seven classes have been graduated. At first, the building of a new Catholic high school in this area seemed to be an enormous undertaking, but Cardinal O'Hara knew that God would show him the way. God certainly recognized the needs of the people in this area. By dedicating Mater Dei to Cardinal O'Hara, we have found a way to formally acknowledge, and express gratitude for, the foresight, ambition, perseverance, and Godliness of this fine man who died August 28, 1960. May he rest in peace. 2
