These priests direct its life AS superintendent of all Catholic schools in the Buffalo diocese, Mon- signor Holbel, also directs and supervises the curriculum. Monsignor co-ordinates the course of studies to maintain the same high standards throughout the schools un- der his direction. All the exams we write come from his office. Here at Notre Dame our principal, Father Herlihy, ex- ecutes the directives emanating from the desk of the Monsignor. Father is also a friend to each of the students and with a guiding and loving hand aids us in our slightest need. Auxiliary Bishop of Buffalo V Our Lady ' s School IN 1951 Notre Dame held classes in Saint Anthony ' s School with two Sisters of Mercy and the Reverend Jo- seph Jensen as principal. In late October Father Jensen was taken ill. The late Rever- end John E. Nugent took over until December when the pres- ent principal, the Reverend David P. Herlihy came. In September, 1952, the students moved into the new building at the corner of Rich- mond and Union with Father Herlihy as principal, five Holy Cross Sisters, two Con- solata Fathers and a diocesan priest. September, 1953, brought another class to Notre Dame as well as another diocesan priest and three new sisters. 1954 came. The first sen- ior class was formed. There are two more diocesan priests, five new sisters, and a lay math teacher. Now, as the very first graduation ap- proaches, the faculty numbers eighteen, and the high school uses the whole building.

BELOW LEFT: A teaching day for the Reverend Lee J. Mays is filled with elementary and intermediate Algebra and Latin III classes. Father is also N.D. ' s Athletic Director. COUNTER CLOCKWISE: The Reverend Richard Rutecki, who teaches religion, biology, general science and general math, was a newcomer to Notre Dame ' s faculty this year. With days of religion instructions, Latin classes and study halls, the Reverend Edward Scanlan has spent his first year at Notre Dame. Miss Marian Maney, Notre Dame ' s own li- brarian who has beenvery helpful to all those who requested it and kept the library equipped with the very latest books, is also the home- room teacher of 108. Mrs. Barbara Mason is the girls ' physical education teacher. Sister Mary Campion, the junior and senior English teacher, is also advisor for the NO- DAHI and the MATER DEI. Instructor of economic citizenship and Amer- ican history II classes and advisor to the Stu- dent Council--yes, that ' s Sister Mary Lucy. Classes of typing, business arithmetic, busi- ness law and general business fill the days of Sister Mary Mt. Carmel. , mBmmKDmmaiaisn
