FweslumawCJOass I-liskofud Knees knocking, teeth chattering, hearts thumping but with determination set in the line of everyjaw, fifty-two inexperienced students climbed the steps of Notre Dame High. Four years of our lives were depending on the foundation started this cool September day in '55 With such a large number of pupils to copge with, it was to be expected that our devoted teachers, Sister St. Pierre d'Avila, Sister Rollande and Sister Bernadette Marie, should de- cide to separate us into two groups, IA and IB. This, in no way meant A was superior to B but, was solely a means of enabling the sisters to teach in an easier and better way. Sister Marie-de-la-Reparation, however, decided to die courageously and undertook teaching all fifty-two young, impetuous students in the Library of the New Notre Dame High. Our hats are off to such a teacher! We are humbly grateful also to our principal who has found time, in her busy schedule, to teach us Latin and algebra. While settling into our routine of changing classes at curious hours and learning new subjects with complicated textbooks, one thing was uppermost in our minds .............. Initiation!!! When that day arrived, fear was soon forgotten in the wholehearted enjoyment which we felt. Initiation night found us trying to follow the theme of the evening, Beat the Clock. Any freshman can admit that it was far from easy. Tricky questions like What is like a cat, acts, and does things like a cat, yet is not a cat?', were askedand few could think of a kitten', in the few seconds which was the time allowed. After all had been run ragged, we waltzed for the remaining time with Norman Lafrenais, Freshman King and Yvette Vaillancourt, Freshman Queen. Once a month our reliable social committee arranges entertainment for our Saturday night dances. Without such devoted teen-agers our dances would be far from what they are ..........fun! Today, we are freshmen, tomorrow, we'll be seniors. Faithful to our motto, Laborare est Oraref' we will make our four years of work at Notre Dame High travel along the high- way of a quartet of worship. We hope to meet milestones of happiness, fun, success and, best of all, contentment along the N.D.H. four-lane highway. Sandra Lesniewski '59
