The bubble burst as the Irish toppled from a first place league tie in the Central Division to bow to the greatly improved U. of D. Cubs on Homecoming Day. Led by the running of Dick Czarnota and inspired by the return to action of All-City fullback Paul Ewing, the Cubs literally ran over the Notre Dame de- fense. Showing the form and determination that made them Central Division Champs in '58, the Cubs outran, outblocked, and out- tackled the Irish to gain a big victory and upset, 24-14. NOTRE DAME 14 U.
