Notre Dame's first school paper, Thumb Print , was introduced in the spring of 1955. The following September, the name was changed to The Shield . The Shield is the school emblem and also a sign of valor and enterprise, therefore it is appropriate for the name of the school paper. Today The Shield is an off-set publication with a circulation of 2000.
