unday Ritgg They Head, otre Dame quires Inztzate 0 into ew quires Circle Eighty Notre Dame Highl School boys were initiated- Sunday into the newly formed Notre Dame Colum- bian Squires Circle organ- ized by Msgr. Vismara Coun- cil 3725, Knights of Colum- bus, Harper Woods. . The gr-oup's ambitious plans' for the future include sponsor- ing the erection and indulgenced blessing of the Way of the Cross in the high schoo1's new chapel. They also plan to hold n school- wide essay contest this month and a talent show ist Danby High School to benefit the new Notre Dame cafeteria. The Squires intend to colleci money in the school for thefor- eign missions. This month they will dramatize the application of the sacrament of Extreme Unction. They have distributed Catholic literature to pupils of the school. The initiation ceremonies be- gan at dawn Sunday with a Mass at St. Peter Church on Eight Mile Road. Father John Bryson, father friaf oi the new circle, said the Mass and preached a sermon to a filled church. Squires and Knights of Columbus members filled the middle aisle of the church. After Mass the 80 Squires and, i way to ' Notre Dame High, School's cafeteria for a break-l fast of bacon and eggs. Degree work began at 11 s.m. at St. Leo XIII Council Hall, Toepfer and Gratiot. Congratu- latory briefs were given by Father Bryson: Father A. Ve- row, ,principal of Notre Dame .High Schoolg Sam Gambino, Charles DeFever and Allen Miglia, counselors for the group. The new Squires gathered aft- erward wtih their families and friends for a celebration ban- quet at. the high school. Meals were servedgto 250 ests. Addresses were n at the end of the meal by the group mentioned above. They ex- plained that the Squires gather boys 13 to 18 years of age to trains-them into men of leader- ship and responsibility. This aim is achieved through a four point program, geared to train and develop the youth spiritually, culturally, socially and physi- cally. Notre Dame High School, Harper Woods, Michigan April, 1956 LARGEST A SQ UIRE CIRCLE INITIATES 4. , id The Notre Dame Circle of the Columbian Squires has laid its corner stone to progress. The present enrollment in the circle is 80 members. To become a member you must be between 13 and T8 years of age. ln February, election of of- ficers to head the group was held. The elected are as fol- lows: Chief Squire, J. Bulgarella, Deputy Chief Squire, R. Biernat, notaries are R. Gramer and S. Winchell, Marshall, Gerald Flem- ing, Sentries, J. T. Paganes, R. Burda and E. Waldorf. The head counselor for the circle will be Al. Miglio. The Initiation Ceremonies were acted out on Sunday, April 8, 1956. 7:30 Mass was attended by the entire Notre Dame Circle at Saint Peter's Church in Harper Woods. At 9:00 the boys came and ate breakfast in our school cafeteria. Following the break- fast at ll:O0 the boys were transported to Saint Leo Xlll Council Hall where the initiation took place. Then 5:00 p.m. witnessed the new squires re- turning to Notre Dame for a delicious evening dinner. The guest of honor and speaker at dinner was, our principal, Fr. A. Verow.
