Lou Pick, the new head basketball coach replacing Mucho Pappas at Notre Dame, is an outstanding example of the good small man who, through sheer talent and mental sharpness. has succeeded in a sport where great physical assets are considered nearly essential. Before joining the coaching ranks Lou brought himself national fame as a Nlanhattan College player for his exceptional court play and unerring set shot. As a mentor he coached such college teams as St. Anselnfs and Assumption. Our Catholic City rivals. St. Bernard,s. enjoyed their greatest years under Senor Pick las he is affectionately calledl. It is his boast that he has never had a bad team, and his first Blue and White record of 14 wins and six losses has won him the faith of Notre Dame followers, who consider the humorously verbose. court mastermind as one of the game,s best. Com- ing out of virtual obscurity, he developed into a great rebounder who made the Notre Dame 3 fast-break possible, with his strong down-the- ' J court heaves. His deadly overhead shot and , drive-ins opened many enemy defenses, and set the stage for many high scoring tilts. He averaged a respectable 8 points a game for his guard-feeding post. ' 4 sa ' s CLAYTON CARDINAL A three-letter man in sports Bee greatly con- tributed to the Crusaders' winning hoop season. He was a valuable rebounder with the instinct of a champion to grab the all-important rebound. A good court watchdog he blocked many shots in front or beneath the basket. On the offense his strong. sure hands made him an ideal feeder from his guard post. EDGAR LAVOIE The business and care of any team often require the services of many more men than players. lt is the im- portant job of the manager to oversee all the dress and play equipment for this or that particular sport. The Notre Dame hoop squad has profited from the devoted services of Edgar Lavoie who. as manager, has brought efficiency, thoroughness and a light heart to his work. Many thanks to Edgar fthe Covernorj Lavoie. . J S 131 '
